You can find lots of info at the West Marine website - once there, look in the "West Advisor", then look in a category for paint, maintenance, etc.

They make some fiberglass cleaner polish that nourishes the surface and works pretty darn good. Kinda wets out the gel coat and brings the depth and color back, they have been around a long time.

I used 3m polish on a 76 Reinell that was pretty oxidized from sitting in a field and it looked like new afterward. I found that my arm worked better than a polisher because I could exert more force with less RPM without burning the glass.
It takes work but you can do it and there is nothing better than people commenting at the ramp about how great your old boat looks.

tons of products out there but it's all really the same steps
1. heavy cutter- most abrasive-wool pad
2. polish - less abrasive-wool pad
3. final glaze- least abrasive-foam pad
these are what we do for clear coat but the same policies apply..you can just hit gel coat harder
get a decent variable speed buffer...if it's a one time shot HF makes one that might make the cut for 1 boat (20 bucks)...they are the throw away type and ya might have to take it back for a replacement to finish the boat off. PM me if ya need a bit more advice and take some before and after pics...to show your friends:cheers:
