I've been looking at upgrading from my 14' jon boat and am wondering if I'd be better off with a Tiller or console mount on a 20' sled?
The tiller mount HP rating is only 60 HP which seems pretty small for a boat that size. Console mount rating is 125 or 115 don't remember exactly.
Why the big differance?
If I go tiller mount will I end up wishing I had a larger motor?

My 17'10" Northriver Scout has a rating sticker that says 115 HP remote, ann 80 HP manual. I have a Yamaha 4 Stroke 80 HP pump and don't have any problems getting on plane. The biggest reason for the difference is where you are sitting in the boat, on a wind sheild boat you're up front, and on a tiller you are sitting/standing in the back.
The ratings on the boat you describe below sound abit off in my mind for most 20' boats, what is the make, model, and year???

no matter which way you go, sooner or later you'll wish you had more power.....
With my experience, I'd recommend a tiller. Made me feel like I had more control of the boat when docking/loading/beaching.
Console/steering wheel set-up caused me to over steer at these low RPM situations. Not to mention that consoles take up a lot of valuable interior room in your boat.
either way enjoy the shopping!!
Tiller! Check out the guys that make their living in a boat (guides). More room, better response.....
