Had lively debate in the boat this Saturday between several novice boat owners on fogging an engine. Would anyone like to weigh in and give their procedure on how they do it (other than "follow the directions on the side of the can") ... thanks ... trying to settle a bet so not giving up any of the ways that were discussed.
Thanks !

I think it is a total waste of time to fog an engine. Never done it, never will and never experienced any ill effects of not doing it. And I have owned my share of outboards and 2 stroke snowmobiles during my life time.

If you store outside or longer than 3-4 months inside I would fog. Is will reduce corrosion and provide lubrication on the next start up.
I have always had pretty good experience following the engine manufacurer's directions. The factory engine manuals will spell it out. It's pretty close to what it says on the side of the can.
You want the cylinders and bearings pretty wetted out with oil for the season's first fire up.
Greas'er up and blow it out the tail pipe, my oldest outboard is going on 60 years old. My newest are all 4 stroke.
You also want some non corrosive product in the fuel system that will stay gas soluble when setting for long periods, to avoid corrosion, gumming and varnish. Some fuel systems can be safely drained after treatment.
