Hi, I found this site by searching for (drift boat trolling motors ). This is a great forum ! I have a couple of questions maybe some of you pros can help me out with. A year ago July, my wife and I moved from northern California to Helena, Montana. While in Eureka Ca.( 15 Years) I fly fished the Kalamath and Trinity rivers wade fishing. Now in Mt. I have bought a drift boat ( actualy a RO 15 ft skiff). I have been in this boat 3 times on the Missiouri river below Holter dam. #1 perfect- no wind, floated 6 miles. #2 wind to the north (down stream) missed the take out point, OUCH hit rocks. #3--4 days ago, Wind to the south, had to oar down stream or wind would carry you back up ( in wider sections.)
I'm going to put an electric trolling motor on this boat. I have narrowed the search down to a Minn Kota Vanatge or Vector (80# thrust) As I have hit rocks two out of three trips, which would be better for hitting underwater obstructions? The Vanatage has a ( breakaway mount),the Vector has a Composite shaft. I'm not rich, but being disabled, walking home in the dark @ 20 deg. is not an option. I would appreciate any information.
