If anybody is interested here is a report on the Nehalem Bay at the jaws.
My fishing partner Snippy and i just fished the bay from last Monday thru this morning. WE put three nice chinooks in the boat, 20-27-30, plus a 8 lb silver and a 19 inch jack.
We saw at least 30 fish landed and iam sure there were more that we did not see. About halfway through the incoming tide seemed to be the best time although fish were caught at all different times. Understand the upper river was dead. Crabbing is very poor. Samll herring was ticket. Got our herring at the Tillamook Bait shop and they were really nice. You can get them at the marinas but they are not the same quality in my opinion.Water temp was 49 deg, moss was not to bad. The fishing is not real hot yet but it is good enough to make it interesting. Lot of people were trying just for silvers but were not having any luck. The silvers that are being hooked are by those after chinook. Talked to a gal from ODFW and she said a number of non fin clipped fish are being brought in. They just take the fish, call the OSP and they come and write the ticket.
Trying to get snippy to join the ifish board. I hope he does as maybe he will start fishing with some of you and i will be rid of him. images/icons/grin.gif

images/icons/smile.gif hey Snippy come on down. Spend you free time getting all wrapped up in mostly pointless arguments that most people post just to get you goat. It fun watching your blood pressure rise. Your attitude toward your fellow man deteriorate. Plus If your partner has his way you can shake him like an undersized bad halibut joke! kiddin aside enjoyed meeting you at the Golden Valley Brew last week and hope to see you somewhere on the water.
Kind Regard

Sometimes I think I am too funny for my own good? Hope you saw the humor.......

Toblerone is a fine Swiss Chocolate manufacture. Over 150 years old. Since most of the Chocolate Labradors I've know have had names like Mocha, Coco, Hershey and because I am a European trained Chef it only seemed appropriate to name our new dog Toblerone(on paper anyway), we call him Toby.
He's a little over a year old now and has lost his boating rights dues to his overly excited puppy-ness and I can't keep him out of the water. I've re-read this twice now and can't see any obvious errors so here it comes....
Kind Regards
John

Yea yea, we named our lab Brach trying not to use one of the more common chocolate names. Toblerone is a good one. I named my first lab Elvis but that old boy left the building 13 years ago.

Thanks Cagey. I'll be heading down in the morning. I don't feel to comfy heading out toward the jaws in my driftboat, so I'll stick around Wheeler. I've heard of a strong bite at first light, and then in the middle of the incoming like you said. Any of you other Mac goofballs gonna be down there?

Thanks for the update, I'll be out there this weekend with my son. He's eleven and ready for his first big fish. You have to be above the park dock to keep silvers, right?

Hey Water...when were you down at Steens? I was down over the 4th of July, the latter part of that week. We fished on the Blitzen, camped at Fish Lake, did the loop, glassed a herd of sheep and ended up at Mann Lake, the long way! It is awesome down there, for all that have not been...do it!

sorry i am late with this but i just returned from a weekend of golfing in Bend. Man it is hard to be retired.
Mark....17 pulls, small plugcut herring, 6-8 oz of lead on a 18 dropper. Very slow troll. Best area seemed to be the last 400 yards to the tip of the jetty on the incoming tide.

NORM...you can keep finclipped silvers all the way out to the jetty tips. You can also keep jack salmon and there are a lot of them.

REMEMBER, if you go beyond the jetty tips you cannot keep the silvers and you must go barbless.

toblerone, jeesh, can i just call you choc drop or hershey or something simple.A trained chef and you sat beside me and consumed that mess on that plate at the G,V,B.??? Makes one wonder what all these other ifishers do for a living huh?

Hi Gary, wish i could have made over at the same time. There were several drift boats out at the jaws and beyound right beside us and no problems. That bar seems to be pretty good most of the time. Just watch the boats. When you find yourself all alone its time to beat a hasty retreat off of the bar. You can still fish within 300 yards of the mouth even if the bar is rough and have good fishing.
