This Saturday 8/16 there will be a carcass planting going on in the Sandy river basin. I received short notice from Dick Caldwell at ODFW. They have some 50 spring chinook that were recycled 3 times and needed to be pulled from the river. Instead of wasting them we will plant their carcasses on Saturday on the Salmon river to enhance nutrients for smolt survival.
I need some volunteers to help out with this project. We will be meeting at the Sandy river hatchery near the town of Sandy in the morning and planting the carcasses and should be finished pretty quickly.
If you would like to help please contact me as soon as possible by emailing me at eneiwert@home.com, calling me at 503-408-0108, or posting here.
We are also going to be doing a large scale planting of carcasses on the upper Sandy when the coho run hits the hatchery. So this is a long term project where if you can't do this one you could help us out in the near future with another planting.

I was hoping I would get a little more response out of my post. So far no one has responded. images/icons/frown.gif

Eric,

I'm sure there are many ifishers that are like me. I would love to be able to help, but 2 days notice for a weekend isn't very much. I've already got solid plans for this weekend. However I would love to be put on your list to help in the future. Hopefully with more notice we can make it work better.

Yes Eric, what ram said. I would love to get in on something like this even though I don't fish the area, however I have a golf tourney to go stink up Saturday and camping for the rest of the weekend. Good luck, i'm sure you'll find a few good carcass slingers... Joe

I'd be tempted to help with this, as hopefully it might actually lead to someone helping me learn about steelhead fishing...but i have a camping trip this weekend.

More advance notice next time, a promise of steelheading tips and such, and you can count me in. images/icons/cool.gif

I hear you! I got notice myself from Caldwell only this last Monday and have been scrambling ever since. I will make a longer notice in the future if it is within my ability. images/icons/smile.gif
