This Saturday 8/16 there will be a carcass planting going on in the Sandy river basin. I received short notice from Dick Caldwell at ODFW. They have some 50 spring chinook that were recycled 3 times and needed to be pulled from the river. Instead of wasting them we will plant their carcasses on Saturday on the Salmon river to enhance nutrients for smolt survival.
I need some volunteers to help out with this project. We will be meeting at the Sandy river hatchery near the town of Sandy in the morning and planting the carcasses and should be finished pretty quickly.
If you would like to help please contact me as soon as possible by emailing me at eneiwert@home.com, calling me at 503-408-0108, or posting here.
We are also going to be doing a large scale planting of carcasses on the upper Sandy when the coho run hits the hatchery. So this is a long term project where if you can't do this one you could help us out in the near future with another planting.
