Did you see Genes fish on TheGuideshop web page?

Fishing Report from Tillamook, Oregon

October 8, 2007 In memory of Eugene(Gene)Hoefer submitted by Matthew Daily. I am attaching a picture of a fish that my Father-in-law the greatest man I have ever known caught. His name is Eugene Hoefer. This is a very sad story, but it is a fisherman',s dream. On October 3, 2007, Eugene was out fishing like he loved to do. All day no bites very bad rain. As we were readying to leave he said his famous saying "one last cast". Well he took that cast and with it he hooked into this beautiful 40lb buck. While fighting the fish he suffered a severe heart attack. He landed the fish and then collapsed. He later was pronounced dead at the Tillamook Community Hospital. He died with a great big smile on his face, but I was wondering if you would put this picture of the fish up on your website. Although he couldn',t be there to hold the fish for the picture myself and longtime friend John Siller held it for him. I know that he always wanted to make it on the guide shop website and he would be honored. If it is not possible because of the troubles that have become the guide shop that is fine, but I figured I would take my best shot. Thank you for your time. Matthew Daily (son in law) Well, here is to Eugene Hoefer....the greatest man who left us doing what he loved to do...Good fishing to all, Marilyn http://www.guideshop.com/thumbnails/gene.jpg

Thank you for posting this on here. Im matthew daily the one who actually wrote that and sent it to the guide shop. I had no idea it was on here until I became a member earlier today. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him he taught me absolutely everything I know about fishing. Which I am sure wasn't a very easy task since I didn't meet him till I was 16. I have so many fond memories fishing with Gene. Been over six months since he has passed and fishing just isn't thhttp://www.ifish.net/board/attachment.php?attachmentid=8589&stc=1&d=1209004972e same without him. Matthew,

Gene sounds like he was a great man. I am sorry for your loss, but am comforted by the fact that he died doing what he loved.

Thank you for the touching story.

I am thankful for every day that I got to spend with him and all he taught me about life and fishing. Just wish we could have had more time together.
