I've recently come on to the market of looking for a new Outboard Jet for a 19 foot North River - Originally had a 140 jet Mercury.

Yamaha vs. Mercury - the experts I've talked with say they're both good, It seems like some like one, some the other.

I've heard that you don't want to get one of the new electronic fuel injection type motors with a jet on it (Mercury EFI, Yamaha V-Max). I guess they work great for a while, but the injection system is run by a computer chip that adjusts according to RPM, engine load, etc. A motor with a jet runs more erratically than a prop, and after a while the chip gets confused and things get really screwed up.

Any thoughts, Any suggestions?

Well...I just bought a new 200 Merc(non EFI)...Like it alot. Don't know about the EFI thing/rpm/chip tho. Perhaps someone here can offer some input on that. ??

You might find some guidance at www.iboats.com (http://www.iboats.com) on the motor discussion board. It's a big, active group ... I did a search on EFI over the last 30 days and came up with 181 posts.

had a 140jet mercury from 1999 until 3 days ago- had a different problem each year - but other than that it ran great.

wondering what experiences (good/bad) and hog line talk anyones heard about different big outboard jets... thanks for the input so far.

So correct me if I'm wrong... But at the 200 hp range with a Yamaha you have to go with the Vmax or the 4 stroke?

I know theres more of you out there w/an opinion on outboard jets... lets here from you please!

Has anyone heard that the Vmax with jet has trouble after a couple years w/ the electronics?

Sell the boat and get an inboard V-8. It will save you a lot of money in repairs in the long run. images/icons/grin.gif
