I am heading to Hammond this weekend to join the parade, and heard rumor that the river downstream of buoy 10 was to be closed. Is this true or just a rumor? Also, are there any hook restrictions (barbless?) this year at all? Thanks in advance. A good friend of mine fished with four friends yesterday and got two nice chinook early above buoy 10 (24 & 30) and then went out to someplace around buoy 2 or 3 and limited on silvers, with a few other nates also.

According to ODFW catch counts, the ocean is open. As of 8/12/01, 62,515 fin-clipped hatchey coho caught, or 56% of 112,500 quota. You can check on this at www.hmsc.orst.edu/odfw/salmon/nofspt.html (http://www.hmsc.orst.edu/odfw/salmon/nofspt.html)

When you say "down river from Buoy 10" I assume you mean beyond Buoy 4, as the stretch between is protected.

We went out last Sunday and had an incredible day - caught and released 6 natives before keeping limits of hatchery coho. Must have had 30 hookups, but lost count. Might be a good idea to sharpen your hooks - that seems to help.

Good luck! We will be going out again this Sunday.

The ocean is open Sunday through Thur. I went out yesterday (Thursday) had a hard time keeping a pole in the water, it was great!

Came "inside" to get the remaining fish on our limits and we trolled four hours and picked up one 14# coho. we called it quits and plan to come back next Thursday. In checking with the Fish & Game checker she said that the ocean quota was at approxamately 50% so it should be open for a while.

Keep those lines tight!

Now here is a dumb question. Can you take three fish from the ocean? Can it be that you can take 2 from the ocean and 1 in the river behind 10? I have not seen the regs on this yet but hopefully someone here already knows.

From a post that I made earlier it seems to be a consensus, you can only have one limit for the area fished, hence two in the ocean, then come inside for the third. It is all segmented by the areas fished, buoy 4/7 being the ocean (limit of 2)and buoy 10 upriver having the extra fish limit. I sure wish the regs would point this out but others that I have chatted with have asked the right people in uniforms and gotten the information.

Thanks Jim. Sure seems like another dumb rule. Oh well, can't complain to much the fishin is to good!

Heading out early in the morning for Ilwaco. Glad I have my boat moored there. The ramps have been tough this week from what I hear.

I am in a 23' Larson weekender. I go by the name of Gifted on the water. Depending on how rough the water is next week I will go back out next Thur. I don't want any part of the zoo on the weekend or right at number 10.

As far as the limits one of the guys in my party told the person from ODFW that we had been out in the ocean and that we then came in and picked up one in the river. All she wanted to see was the one in the river. She didn't even check our tags. _ this was at Warrington. But this checker didn't even realize that today (8/17) was an open Halibut day south of Cape Falcon.

FishinMishin 2 I hope we can hook up.

Keep the lines tight!
