Three fish, rougher than heck, BOE took one over the bow, and that was enough of the bar for them.
But they did get three fish for all day.
Not real hot.

I was at Buoy 10 today also. I actually did not think it was that rough today. There were a lot of boats running back to 10 after drifting back. This created a lot of boat wake which is what made it bouncy. That is what Buoy 10 always was back 10 or more years.

Congratulations on the fish. For us it was a day of 2's. We got 2 keepers, released 2 wild fish, and lost 2 others.

I tried to call any i-fishers who would who answer on the vhf radio today (channel 16). Have we come up with an official i-fish vhf channel.

You're right about the boat wake Pete. We went for a ride across the bar and that was rough! We had all of our luck near the bridge with three keepers! Hey did you see that weird looking boat that was being steered by hand with a rudder? We saw every shape and size of boat today and lots of them! It's amazing what people will take out there isn't it. Didn't see any Chinook.

Bait O' Eggs treated us to a real nice day. He brought the BBQ and cooked hamburgers while we fished near the Church hole. And earlier he got to run the Columbia River bar for the first time out into the ocean, to around bouy 4 and back while waiting for the tide shift and a bite to come on. It was choppy by bouy 10 but there were big rollers with some breakers outside. When we took the sneaker big one over the bow it was time to turn around and 'motor surf' the back side of waves back inside. images/icons/shocked.gif We went 4 for 9 on those frustrating short striking silvers. I released the first keeper because it was small and I thought a limit of good sized ones would be no problem out there; but the bite has slowed the last 2 days from the first 2 days. We each caught and kept big plump cohos - a product of the better ocean feed the last couple years. The last one came on the last troll in toward Hammond, around high tide. Thanks again Roy. ... With the barometer rising and calmer water the propsects should improve again all week (and all month!). Get after them. images/icons/smile.gif - Steve

Shhhannnneee! The flat anchor ain't so bad after all, eh? Were any of the rollers over Roy's head? No vegetable soup on the deck I hope. images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif Adipose intact steelhead, no Chinook for us upriver. Water temp sucks.

I don't own a VHF, but aren't you supposed to stay off of 16?
I dunno....

Yip, stay off 16!!! (http://www.fcc.gov/wtb/marine/vhfchanl.html)
That channel is for emergencies only.
I think cell phones is a better way to go.

Since almost everyone monitors channel 16, that is normally where the initial contact is made. After making the initial contact you then agree to meet on a different channel normally 68. This has been the normal procedure for as long as I can remember. Ths thing to remember is to go directly to the other channel after making the contact and don't continue to use 16.

Hey Stew Yea I saw that boat with the tiller, did you also notice their mascot.

We actually saw a drift boat and about a 16 foot car topper out at 10. I guess they must have had a death wish or something. images/icons/confused.gif

Saturday with Stew and RT was far better than Sunday with a couple other friends. Fished from 9am (late start images/icons/frown.gif ) to about noon. Spend our entire time at the bridge near the church hole. I had a highly potential chummer, and B10 was not to be seen by my boat. We went 0 for 0 and never saw a fish on in the area. The wind kicked it up a couple notches around noon and made a lot of chop. The ride from the bridge to Hammond took 45 minutes. images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif Lots of water spray over the window made for a miserable ride back to the dock, wish I would have left the top on.
