What am,I doing wrong.I'm fishing the same area,I always fish for steelhead out of washougal,I've used about everything in my box includeing u-20 orange, rainbow spinners(pink tipped),spinglows(various colors)spinglows with hoochies(various colors)in 12-15 ft of water and can not catch a thing out of the last four trips,I've managed to hook and release one native about 12 lbs.I use 4' leaders and 4' drop,I've used 3'and3',I've used 5'and5',maybe I'm just going thru a bad spell but thats poor fishing for four 8 hr days.I'm fishing out of washougal at #50 dolphin up by reed island and a while down in front of the sandy.Today the grass was really bad.All these places I've been fishing I've always caught fish before ????
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated as my wife is starting to think I'm not fishing but sleeping, which for today was TRUE !! images/icons/frown.gif

Try fishing deeper. We've been doing very well in 20-25' of water instead of the usual 16'. I think they're deeper because of the warm water.

Good Luck

Jellyhead's "Right on"...we been getting them in 20-25'.....3 foot dropper, about a 3 foot leader...red K-10 Kwikfish. I quit fishing the Sandy area last year. I really used to slay them there, but for the last 2 years...it's been terrible. I moved on to a different area, and am glad I did. images/icons/grin.gif If you ask me what you're doing wrong....I'd say it's fishing in an area that's been unproductive for too long. That area aint what it used to be. Are you seeing other folks "hammerin'"??

Thats a good idea going to deeper water,I noticed on the way back to the dock today there was a ton of fish right in the channel and not hardly any in the useual places.I've heard of some fishing being caught but not really a lot for the amount of boats out there.I think the warm water(68 degrees today)has not really been a alot of help either. There really was a lot of fish in the channel or at least in 28 to 30" ft of water.I'll try deeper this weekend. Thanks guys.

Actually the water is cooler than normal this year since we have been getting a little of our fall weather early. I think that the reason the fish are running deeper is because the flows are down and they don't have to get along the shore to get out of the current.

18 to 25 foot of water sounds like it's the place to be.
