I was told recently, that if I as an Oregonian put my boat in on the Washington side of the Columbia river, that my Oregon tag is still good. I tag my fish on the Oregon tag and that I dont need to purchase a Washington tag. But on the other hand, Washington anglers who put their boat in on the Oregon side are'nt allowed to put fish caught on their washington tag. They have to buy a oregon tag. TRUE OR FALSE? images/icons/rolleyes.gif images/icons/rolleyes.gif This could be a big fiasco if you dont know images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif Help me out on this one cuz I dont want any trouble! Thanks images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif ........Fishhead Vic images/icons/grin.gif

HEY FISHEAD:

According to the rules, you can launch and take out in either state, as long as you have a valid licencse and tag for one of the two. Page 78 of this year's Oregon regs should help should you have any ?'s. Basically it says if you're legal, fish BEWARE!!!!! images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif

OH YEAH, THE ANSWER IS FALSE!!

I have a license and tag from both states. Can I legally catch and retain my daily limits for both states? Now thats a question I would like answered.

ok, what if you have a license and tag for both states. Can you now limit twice per day?
Would I be able to launch and land on the Oregon side with enough fish to fill both of my limits for that day? Just wondering.

Only if you don't get caught!!! images/icons/shocked.gif In the WDFW regs under special rules for eastside rivers it clearly states that only one limit may be taken. Nice try though!!! images/icons/wink.gif
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif

Sorry fishslayers, you MAY NOT images/icons/frown.gif images/icons/frown.gif keep daily limits from both states, but catch and release is always a good option when fishing is as good as it's been recently, and is going to be in the next few weeks. The real question is going to be on August 16, when the Oregon limit I believe goes to 3 silvers a day, will this also apply to those Washington anglers fishing in the Columbia?Maybe we'll hear more once the ODFW meets in August.

Vic, Here it is:
1)Anglers are restricted to one daily catch and one annual sturgeon catch limit even if licensed in both states.
2) Anglers that are residents of either Oregon or Washington may launch or take out their boats from either shore, regardless of which state license they hold.
I was wrong about the Washington fishermen on the Oregon side but you can put-in or take out on either side. John

It's the same thing with night fishing on the Columbia for salmon and steelhead. The regs say you cannot fish in the other state if there season is closed, even if you have a valid licence for the one that is open . So, because oregon is closed at night, I can fish the washington side of the channel at night. I would assume if you want to retain 3 silvers a day you could only fish the oregon side of the channel. It may get interesting.

Also, In washington, they assume you have caught everything you've kept in the waters you are currently fishing. So keep that in mind.

I still have a question on Ocean fishing. In the marine zone for oregon regs it says any ocean caught salmon landed in Oregon must be tagged with an Oregon tag. Does Washington have a similar reg for the ocean?

In the Columbia its all good with either tag as long as you follow the regs and seasons for the state you are landing in.

Question...... I heard that if you are licensed in both states (OR & WA)and are launching from you home state, you must use you home state license and tag. That would mean that if I launch at Hammond and want to save punches on my OR tag by using my WA tag, I can't. Is this a current, new, proposed or non-existing rule? Can anyone clarify/confirm this.

So, I got off my lazy *** and called ODFW. IF you live in OR and have both states licenses and launch/return from OR you can use your WA tag and license. SO, if you have both tags save your OR non fin clipped punches for fall nookers......
