I am going to be fishing...err..catching fish and am launching from Hammond on Wed, Aug 8. If any ifishers will be there it would be great to meet you. Please let me know ! I will be in an aluminum 20' Starcraft towed by a motor home. Going to spend the night Tuesday somewhere, any suggestions on a decent place to stay ?

We have been staying at the KOA across the street from the main entrance to Ft. Stevens state park. There is also a nice campground that is a "GOOD SAM" park. The one is "KAMPERS WEST" it is between the Hammond and the Warrenton boat ramps. KOA charges $34.00 a night and I am not sure how much Kampers West charges.
Both have fish cleaning areas but Kampers West is the best ammenaties for "FISHING & CRABBING" but if you have kids and families going with you go to KOA. more for the kids to do and FREE PANCAKE BREAKFAST @ 7:00a.m. for all who stay at the KOA. (weekdays only)Lots of other ammenities, Can't name them all. Pool, Game room, Etc.
You could also stay @ Ft. Stevens if you know someone who has made reservations last year. images/icons/mad.gif
Good luck and have fun - Tracy

FishinMission2,
I might be there. Have not made up my yet. Might decide to go the Nehalem route instead. If i come ill look for you.
Its my understanding that there is a rv park somewhere near Hammond but dont know its name or location. Hope someone does as i would like to stay there also.
Look for a 16 foot Sylvan, 40 horse with rolled up blue top and rail around the bow.Cagey.

There is a somewhat crowded and small (30 spaces?)RV park directly behind the Hammond boat launch (behind Willey's Bait and Tackle shop). I do not have the name either. I know the place is full on weekends.
Better get those plans in soon or you'll be missing out.

Without sounding like too much of a hobo, i've booked trips with too short of notice to get a room many times and have slept in the boat in parking lots including Hammond launch (way in the back of the grassy parking area), east mooring basin parking lot, the maritime museum parking lot and the back of the lot at tackle time. The only downer is the occasional idiots that show up at the parking lot at midnight or 1am getting primed for the morning by hammering beer and whiskey and making a ruckus. These guys are prime candidates for the darwin awards images/icons/mad.gif

Thanks for the info images/icons/smile.gif
Hey FC, does $34 a night also include room service by KOA images/icons/smile.gif I've heard about the the pancake breakfast but have never been there, maybe this could be a first !
Thanks Cagey, I'll be looking for your boat, I probably will be able to tell which one it is by the constant net up for all those fish you catch images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif
Hey Salmonator, is the parking lot a place to avoid, I would hate to pull out my bull horn and let those folks have it, My volume level knob works real well at 1 am images/icons/grin.gif

The pancakes are at a small cost, they also a great place to eat.

Sounds like Salmonator and I think alike, sometimes I arrive very late and need to crash for a fews hours before fishing, just can't see spending money for this.
Used to be no problem sleeping at the boat basin, parking lots and such until apx. 3 or 4 years ago. That's when the friendly accomodating Warrenton city council banned all overnight campers on city property. The catch was, one city council member owned a local RV park, maybe a conflict of interest? Just pulling over late in the night for a few zzzz's and you'll recieve a warm loud welcome from the local police. images/icons/shocked.gif "Move it buddy or you'll be towed". There are signs posted everywhere stating no camping. Funny thing is, I noticed this year many of these sings are missing or falling down. images/icons/wink.gif
BTW, Warrenton jurisdiction spans to Hammond and back out to hwy 101, a very large triangle.
best of luck,
Gregg

Cagey, CABS (cold adult beverages) are one of my forte's, of course in moderation. images/icons/cool.gif
I like the hobo approach, besides I'm not looking for a 5 star resort, only a place to get a little sleep images/icons/rolleyes.gif
Thanks for the tips ! images/icons/smile.gif
