boat question

I am planning on purchasing a bigger boat next year and am torn between many options. One would be to buy an old boat and put new motors on it. I am familiar with the costs of new outboards but many of the boats I am looking at have inboards. I have no idea how much new/rebuilt inboards cost.

I was wondering if any ifishers would know about how much it costs to replace or rebuild an I/O motor. I would want to rebuild or replace the motor and the lower unit but I am only familiar with costs associated with outboards. Just looking for a ball park figure.

I was just looking into buying a boat with a inboard that had problems on the test drive. At the boat shop in Scappose they said rebuild about 1500 ballpark to go through it. It was a 120 Merc in a older boat. Symptoms were smoking pinging got hot, turned out to be the impeller and needed some carb work not rebuilding. Good luck finding a good honest mechanic.
