I came across a humminbird wide 3d ff with all it's accessories and was getting ready to install it on my boat. My question is why might it have 3 different transducers? It is a Vista model which is a little older, but I'm not sure if or how I should attach all 3 transducers to the transom of my boat. It also has a speed/temp attachment as well. Anybody out there know what the advantage might be to having so many transducers and should I mount them all? They all say "high speed" transducer but are each a slightly different size. Thanks for the help.

Willy, that particular Humminbird needs two transducers to reach different depths. One will show up to 250' and another will work from 250 down to 1000'. Not sure why you have three transducers. The third is probably for the side-view feature that those FF's come with.

I would install all three and then go to the user's guide and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY.

Thanks Hoochie. I don't fish this boat in the ocean or anywhere else that I'll need over 250' so I'll go with the one transducer. Great info, thanks for the help. Humminbird is pretty slow on their help line. I'm still waiting for a reply from them.

The biggest help I can offer you with your Hummingbird is: Get rid of it and get a Lowrance images/icons/grin.gif

Thanks guys, this one didn't cost me anything and I use it only for depth and water temp. When I buy a new one I will buy a Lowrance. I've heard bad things about humminbird and would never had purchased it so until it breaks or I get fed up, I'll be using it.

My advice is next time you go fishing, find the deepest water possible and throw it overboard!!!!!!

load the 12 gage and have a friend throw it as high as he can and blast away. It is not worth you're time to put it in

I posted my response because I have two Humminbirds. Niether of which is worth a d#*#!!!

Next unit on my Striper when we get it will be Lowrance without a doubt.

Possibly a Raytheon, I'm hearing good things about them, anyone else?

hooch,

I had an "Apelco" unit on my old skiff. (They're a Raytheon made product, Like Eagle's are made by Lowrance) For the money it was the best unit I've owned. It had speed, temp, and a dual frequency beam all in one compact transducer (nice feature) It performed flawlessly for 2 years before I sold the boat. I currently run an X-65 and 85 on my boat and love them, because of ease of use, and accuracy. When I see arches, I know I'm seeing fish.

Good Luck.
