BIGSTEW just called me, because he had heard that someone had heard that they will be closing the retention of chinook August 15th.
Is this at all true?
I hadn't heard this.

That may be the case in the Ocean, but there is still a lot on the Quota. We won't be shut down until we hit the Chinook guideline.

I can't see how they can close Buoy 10 chinook, as it just started yesterday.
We havn't even started catching the chinook quota.

Maybe they anticipate anglers will reach the quota before August 15th, but that seems premature to announce a closer before fishing even starts.

I think that's a bad rumor. The last few years when we have gotten close to the quota it was late August sometime from the 24to the 28.

Like most rumors there is some fact...the closure of the chinook fishery is predicted...date and time unknown...in a nutshell...if we sport catch 7,900...there will be a closure on chinook with an anticipated increase on Coho retention to 4. Already going to Three on August 16th..Lets keep gettin the Coho guys!!

Commercial boys going in Sunday the 5th at 6pm coming out Monday the 6th at 6pm. Sturgeon "targeted" fishery...they will be using minimum of 9" mesh.

If there is minimal Chinook impact then they will get another 24 hours on the 8th or 9th more than likely...second season will be targeted at Salmon.

A friend told me he spoke with a fish and game rep on a coastal stream who told him Buoy 10 was going to be a weekday only fishery! Tell me it isn't so!!!

Absolutely no talk of that as far as I know...there are silvers to be harvested and we get a serious crack at them...lets go for it!!

Jim - that's 7 p.m. Sunday the 5th until 7 a.m. Monday the 6th - only a 12 hour opener. I'm going to fish it again this year with a gillnetter friend of mine. Last year we boated about 40 Chinooks - all bigger than 25 lbs. and we got about 75 sturgeon. There aren't very many gillnetters who fish this opener - maybe 40. In that 9" mesh you don't catch any silvers and we only cought 7 sturgeon last year shorter than 48 inches.

kt, i personaly am very opposed to commercial sturgeon fishing and the by-catch that goes with it. i dont know of to many people on this board that like it either.

KR,
Man, you got big stones.
You are entitled to do whatever you want but if I were you I would not post it on a sportfishing buliten board.
