Spent the evening fishing at River Mill w/ Smily today. Not too much to report. We had the spot to ourselves when we started, but there were about 10 other bankies there by the time we left. Threw spinners and bobber & egg, but didn't catch any fish. Lots of taps on Smilys eggs, but no hook-ups. They jumped all day long and there are still quite a few bright fish in the system. Only saw one fish caught and it was by an old fly fisherman! Made me humble. Noticed he was taking the long way back to the car about dusk w/ his fish. About that time I noticed it had an adipose. Now that made me mad. Bad enough a fly-fisherman was outfishing me, but he killed a "wild" fish too!

Athough we didn't have any fishy action, it was an entertaining trip. I sort of fell in the river, but only got the upper half of my body wet (Don't ask how). Two ducklings decided that smily's bobber was their mother and spent the better part of several minutes chirping around it while he tried to scare them off. Very very entertaining.

Some bozos also brought down their dogs (3 young labs) to fish with them. What would inspire you to bring your unleashed water-loving dog with you to a crowded fishing hole? Of course they spent the better part of their time yelling at the dogs for swimming through the hole (while the rest of us are trying to fish), running around, and getting into other peoples stuff. The clincher for me was when I looked back up and saw one of the mutts taking a leak on my tackle box. Surprisingly I kept my cool, but they did leave shortly afterward. A very good idea.

So bottom line, River Mill slow, but still chock full of fish. Wait for some more rain to stir them up and hopefully turn on the bite again. Just watch out for all the yahoos. That means me too. images/icons/rolleyes.gif Or just hit the Columbia and get some brighter tastier fish. Hmmmm, what to do, what to do.
