Check out this 9.2lb my partner caught in our club tourny on Saturday. He caught it on a 5 inch wacky rigged Senko with a small spinning combo. We won the tournament with about fifteen and half pounds.

I looked for you out on the water. I knew the weigh in was at 3:00 but I just didn't make it over. I guess I should of went.

Good job. I know it must have been hard fishing with all the ski boats but at least the fog kept them off the water for a little while.

I hate to be the one that stirrs the pot, but this is a 6# Clear Lake Bass, I'm a big guy and I,m not holding it towards the camera! Being in a club tournament I'm sure that it's correct, it just doesn't look that big to me.

9.2 lbs or not, that thing is an absolute hawg!!! I don't have much experience guessing weights of bass that big (hopefully one day), but I would say it has to be up there, look at the belly on that thing. Tell your buddy congrats, that is a once in a lifetime fish around here

It was weighed on the club scale and 2 small digital scales. Both the digital scales said 9.3 and the club scale read 9.2 so we went with the club scale. I have caught several bass this year around 6 pounds and there was no comparison. Both fish in BassinFevers picture don't look close to as big as my friends bass. We had around 14 people from our club there watching to confirm to weight.

I hate to be the one that stirs the pot back, but what the heck, you opened the door and asked what everyone thought, so here it goes:

First, let me post another helpful picture and let everyone decide:
Look at the neck or throat (for lack of a scientific term) below his hand. See how it bulges out? Then the sides and belly? Scroll up and down and tell me if they look the same...now then...
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/resize_big_fishy_pic.jpg

...give me a break. The guy above who caught the 9.2 is about 6' tall. Now granted he looks like if he turned sideways he would disappear, but unfortunately he hasn't had another 50 years to put on enough weight to make his big fish picture valid, according to some on this board. What is it going to take to make you happy for anyone? My guess is nothing, unless you or one of your cronies catches one, then it is valid.

I get tired of reading some of the posts around here flaming peoples catches. I shudder to think what you would have said if he had just caught it during a fun fishing trip with a friend and had only his digital scale. Here you have multiple scales, including a club scale, along with 14 witnesses that saw the monster, and you still post up a negative response. Read your post, you didn't even bother going through the motions to congratulate him on a good catch. Not even buried at the end of your post as a mere formality like most naysayers. And I hate to be the one that points it out but you state below that you aren't even holding it close to the camera, but your clear lake bass shows you holding it out, left arm extended, elbow out from your waist. Looks like you are holding it out close to the camera to me. As for your pic of the one from the same Loon Lake, it looks almost like a nice supper for the 9.2 above.

This is what fishing is all about, as sometimes even those who aren't older and wiser and haven't been fishing since they invented the wheel are able to catch a nice fish. Right place, right time, right bait, maybe some luck??? Who cares! And what makes it all the more incredible is wasn't caught in the springtime. If it had been???

Sorry for the rant, but I am a member of the club that hosted this tourney. I didn't get to go but wished I could have just to see it in person! I got some pics of it emailed to me right away, and was stoked to see this fish. Then I heard through a friend that someone was flaming it even with all of the witnesses/scale/pics/proof. I haven't posted much lately because I have been really busy, too busy even to go fish!!! But a fish like this is always great to see, and encourages people to get out there and fish as it might happen to them here in our little state. Young fisherman see something like this and are motivated to get out there and catch one too, then post it up here to have others share in their excitement, only to have a frequent potty pants say he doesn't believe it cause it looks similar to all of his 6 pounders.

Next time we will try to have the pope present to validate the catch. :hoboy:

Good fish, weight verified on a good scale. Tell me why there's even a question here?

FishHiker
09-13-2007, 02:51 AM
That fish is definitely a hog fatty. I personally think holdin a fish sideways makes it look smaller, but I don't think you could make his fish look small if you tried. Here's a 6.70lber that won me a Loon tourney. As far as I'm concerned cobra's fish dwarfs mine, and looks to weigh every bit of 9lbs to me.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1370/6316724/12265545/277878035.jpg

I'm 6'5" and I stretch my long arms out pretty far for pictures. I don't think it exaggerated my Loon fish too much, but I've perfected my technique and I can now make a 2lber look like a toad. hahaha

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1370/6316724/12265545/277881376.jpg

I understand what bassfever means cause we've all had a run in with some faker who claims they're 4lber weighed 10lbs, cause they don't know the difference, or they think they're fish weighs just as much as the ones they see on T.V. (Man I hate that, it really bugs me) but anyways I got on a rabbit trail.... I think everybody will agree that Cobra's fish is a freakish monster bass from some prehistoric gigantico era that has no business swimmin around in Oregon waters eatin up all of our beautiful native trout. hahaha I guess my point is that any fish can look big or small in a picture depending on the way you hold it.

My intention was NOT to discredit his catch, If you look, I did say: "Being in a club tournament I'm sure that it's correct, it just doesn't look that big to me". Can't I make a comment without being flamed? The second picture does look like a bigger fish and yes it is a hog!

You all are right, I should have said something about it being a great fish and catch. Sorry for the confusion.

Congrats on a great fish!

There are always going to be haters. I agree with being skeptical, there is way too much BS going on out there. However, the lake is known for big fish, and was weighed on certified scales with numerous witnesses. There isn't much else you can do and let the fish live. The kid caught the fish of a lifetime and released it. Man up and tip your cap. Good job Gregor.

Nice Hijack EBG. If I wanted to see your 9lber again I would have asked. I've fished with that club and even operated the very scales that weighed that fish. They are accurate. There were witnesses. I don't know what else you guys want. This post is supposed to be about a guy catching the fish of a lifetime, not a post where everyone can post thier biggest fish and doubt his. Sour Grapes.

Unless a fish is obvios smaller then a person claims the fish to be I usually don't say anything about the whole pic verses weight thing, but this time I will make an exception. When I saw the original pic I thought to myself that it was a nice fish but a really bad pic. Just take a second and look at that first pic again.
1. the fish is actually not being held way out because his elbows bent.
2. the fish is being held horizonal.
3. the fish looks to a small tail compaired to the size of the rest of the fish.
4. the fish is really fat under the gills.

So what does all of that mean. Fish that are held close and horizonal always look smaller they they really are. The stumpy tail and fat under the gills means that it will likely weigh more then other fish of the same lengh and girth.

Add to that the fact that we do have a second(better) pic and it was weighed and witness by EBC and I think that that should leave do doubt as to if it is legit or not.

BTW I think the boat in the background of the second pic is me. There is a pic on the EBC website that shows the boat in the backround better.

there will always be non believers, thats a part of fishing. i myself am just getting use to it.

:)

thats enough proof if you ask me. though most of the time i say no pictures = no proof, thus the story is simply a story. i wouldnt doubt that there is some envy in those words of the nay sayers. they have to debunk your statements in order to feed their ego.

look at the picture itself, the stomach on that thing is huge. 2nd, that lake has a proven record to push out large fish.

just walk away, no need to comment on their negativity.

If anybody wonders why some of us don't post on here, this is the answer! Give me a break! The guy catches a fish of a lifetime and some people are so jealous or self conscious that they have to rag on him and his amazing catch! Everybody knows that each fish is unique, there are always fish that don't match the models set by other people. Let's face it, the guy caught a very nice fish that was shared with the rest of us. Let us congratulate him on his nice fish and leave it at that.
