We hit up the Powder River arm and lower reservoir over the weekend. The fishing was great. Unfortunately we found a hole in my boat on Saturday, so didn’t do much fishing until it was fixed on Monday. 5” Senko knockoffs in green pumpkin were the first hot bait. I found a spot with some current in 20’ of water midday on Monday where it was a 1-2 lb. fish on almost every cast. On Tuesday at first light I tried some topwater in the back of a cove (less than 5 feet of water) to no avail. They were crashing all over the place but wouldn’t hit poppers or a Tiny Torpedo (or I was fishing them wrong). Then I tried a 1/6 oz. Roostertail in white for the heck of it and started nailing them left and right. These were mainly 1-1/2 to 2 pounders. There were no big picture fish, but I lost one at the boat that was in the 3 pound range. These Brownlee fish seem extra scrappy: I often thought I had a bigger fish than I did and they were hard to lip because they wouldn’t stop thrashing. I’ve read some ho-hum reports from here recently so I’m wondering if maybe they’re going into a fall pattern now. All in all this was some of the best fishing I have ever experienced (up there with the Columbia in the Spring).

Probably not fall pattern, but probably a better bite now than it was a few weeks ago, and it will improve continually into October.

Since I am going in the first week of Oct I will bring lots of pics back of the catches. I am hoping to catch the big perch this time of year. Last year we had a stringer filled all the way up with no perch beening smaller than 12 inches. I am hoping to do the same this year.

What are you using to catch perch? I've used night crawlers and had good luck. Do you use spinners or just a crappie type rig? Bobber?

Usually I just use worm, but last year I caught the first perch on a three inch senko, so they will probably eat anything that looks good to them. Weird thing is that some of them had eggs in them so I am not sure if they were coming up to the flats to spawn for the last time of the year. Of course this depends on how low the water is. I was talking to some one and the flats still have water so it maybe alittle different this year. Clayton just got back from there and said that he was catching almost everything.

I got some HOT info from a friend that said he did well below most outcroppings for bluegill, and downstream of the coves for catfish. This is downriver from Hewitt. I'm still trying deeper, bigger, and everywhere for bass.

The water is about 23' down from high water. I haven't been there much when the water is this low, so an entirely new trip is in store. Although I think we'll still catch lots of fish.

I have a new bass rod with an all new for me, A BAIT CASTER! That's right, a bait caster! I've always used spinning gear and am giving a new bait caster a try. I picked up a 7' 6" Okuma medium action rod and a Quantum KV601CXC reel. I tried a friends bait caster my last trip over and found I could somehow use the thing. ROOKIE!!!!!!!

NO ADVICE NECESSARY!:smash:
