Hit the Channel yesterday with my brother-n-law for an afternoon of fishing. We looked for areas with current breaks, and we were fishing the outgoing tide. First place was up along some bridge supports. We started picking up some good fish holding on the downside of the supports, I don't know how many we caught but most were keepers. We then headed deeper into the channel and tried to find some LG Mouth, but we did not. We hit some of the heavy wood, and structure, never found a fish on the wood or the pilings. We headed down even futher and found a point with a rocky flat that stepped down from 2 1/2 feet to 20 feet. The fish were stacked in this area and were feeding on crawdads. Every fish we caught had crawdad coming out. Our livewell was full of them. We took some very nice fish out of this area and could have done very well if we were tourney fishing (just on this one spot). It was getting late so we headed in with one of the best summer outing we have had for smallies in a long time. We used tubes, cranks, beavers, and other plastics. Only one fish on the crank bait and lipless crank. I had the best luck dragging a beaver and then dead sticking it. We had some explosive strikes and I broke a good one off (of course). One at 3lbs, and a lot of fish in the upper 2lb range. Fish are fat!
