So I'm new to the whole cat thing. The only time I have caught them is when I was not trying too. A friend and I tried Van lake a couple weeks ago and yes I do know it is now closed. We got no bites, just crawdads stealling our bait. Any advise? I would really like to get into cats. We tried worms and blood dough. What kind of setup do you use? We tried a egg sinker slip stype. What size hook do you use? I would perfer fishing on the shore at night. Thanks :help:

Do you fish the crappie rigs on the bottom? I have never used one. How much is it to launch from there? Do you fish days or nights? Do you look for holes or what? Like I said this is one type of fishing I have never gotten into, but would like to learn for slow times on the river
Thanks

lacamas lake is suppose to have some good size cats there too, by the pictures i've seen in the little store close by. a few months ago i was in the round lake side and actually saw a school of at least 300 or more tiny baby catfish swimming in the shallow which was kind of cool

I used to use a slder weight, the type you feed your line thru and about a size 6 hook. Fish anything stinky. Doe bait, crawfish, sand shrimp should work also or just night crawlers. The slip weight lets the fish pull the line and get the bait in his mouth without feeling the weight. Can be lotsa fun. Good luck!
