Anyone been on the lower river this week? I plan on going tomorrow and looking for news.

Fished the lower river saturday. No hookups that I saw anywhere. Lots of sleds working the mouth in the Columbia until the winds picked up. We drove on up to Maupin and above hoping for a little redside action but the rafters seem to own that stretch on weekends(or is it everyday?). Looked to me like Seaside during spring break. Thousands of college kids rafting the river. images/icons/shocked.gif I hadn't been to Maupin for about 8 years and won't likely be back on a Summer weekend again. You can't fish when the rafts keep coming down river by the hundreds. With the lower river level some of those rapids have drops of a couple feet in them. Noone seemed to have any trouble but looked like a real thrilling ride for driftboaters.

Talked to a friend that went 11 miles up the deschutes with a guide on Monday the 16th. Hooked 14 got nine to the boat. All but two were natives. Caught all on spiners.

Can you fish out of a boat on the Deschutes now? Just wondering.

Still no fishing from boats but you can use them to get to the fish(every other weekend and this was the weekend for sleds). Barbless hooks no longer required. I fished the blades off my spinners as I walked up river from the park and had no hits, saw no biters on any other rods either but I know there are many fish in the river. The low flow is a challenge. Some riffles you have to go to light gear... #3's. Good luck if you go. Last weekend I saw a guy across the river hook into 3 in a couple hours.

My son and I went up friday night, camped at the mouth and fished till sunday morning. We hooked 18 fish and got 9 to the bank with three keepers. With our fishing time added up together we hooked a fish every hour and 15 minutes...my son figured it out. We caught them on fly's in the shade and spinners, areo fly's, corkies and a few other gizmo's in the sun. The river was full of fish just like the old days.

Outstanding! Glad someone can catch'em. I'm not having that kind of luck. Have you had any hit on bobber and jiggs? I tried spinners saturday in blue, green and silver, also black ones- no hits. I need to go with you images/icons/grin.gif .

A little bird told me they've been doing really well trolling at the mouth w/ wiggle warts. Like 20/boat/day well. images/icons/shocked.gif Just gotta figure out what color to use. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

And yes I am talking about steelhead here, but no I'm not going to tell you the color. Least not till I get down there. images/icons/wink.gif

More than 20 sleds there on Saturday trolling. Theres fish in the Deschutes so they gotta be off the mouth too. Binoculars would tell you the colors that work. images/icons/wink.gif
