I hate fishing with bait. Sticky, stinky, boat-gumming cruddy bait. Especially I hate fishing with eggs. But a day with Ted Howell recently convinced me that sometimes eggs are a good thing despite the mess. So I broke down and ordered 10 pounds each of Scott Amerman's eggs in wet pack and boraxed versions. I don't hate eggs so much any more.

Fishing partner Fin and I headed out to the river this AM for a shot at steelies. He used the wet pack, while I tried the boraxed eggs (thinking that at least they would be less gunky). We thought we would find out which version works best. Well.....it took four seconds of the first cast for the boraxed version, and then a few minutes longer for the wet pack eggs to produce a 15 pounder for Fin.

I still hate eggs. But I love Amerman's eggs. Unbelievable product!

I hope you are right SLUTGODDESS. I just bought 8 pounds yesterday. I intend to use them in Wilson Tidewater and the N. Fork Lewis this fall.

Jack,
Thanks for the great feedback on the eggs. I am glad to see the eggs are paying off already. You will have to let me know in the end which one fishes better for you--the wet pack cure or the borax cure. I think they both will keep slaying.
Bill, I am sure that the people of Ifish know you too well to believe you would sell out. But I am glad you enjoy our product so well. Some day many years later you will have to share some of your stories. I understand right now that they are still classified info and cannot be shared. Some of the stories have leaked back to me. images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

To anyone that hasn't seen these eggs, check them out here. Amerman Eggs (http://www.ifish.net/amer.html)

I just bought the eggs and have not used them yet. However while I was putting them from the plastic bags into jars for vacumn packing I could not help from noticing that these were the firmest and best looking eggs I think I have ever seen or handled. Like I said before I can't wait to use them.

Scott,
I still have the pint jar of eggs in my referidgerator I bought from Ed in FG. I have been going out to get silvers lately and haven't got a good chance to get to the rivers. I appreciate all your tips on where the fishing has been HOT. Usually I don't make it over Salem way though. I prefer the coastal streams North Coast. Not that I wouldn't be up for a good day in the Santiams if I was with a more knowledgable person of the area. images/icons/grin.gif If you know of anyone who would like to go there on a Thursday or Friday ,let me know. I have wheels, gear EGGS and tackle. I do have one question for you though. Are the cured eggs I bought out at Ed's already vaccuumed packed and ready to freeze ? I just bought a new Food Saver at Costco and could Vaccuum them if they need to be. Then I will most likely be out to get more for Fall Chinook. images/icons/wink.gif images/icons/cool.gif Hopefully someone will want to go this Thursday. Tight Lines . Tom images/icons/cool.gif
