Went out of Hammond yesterday. 30 or so takedowns. 20 fish to the boat. 5 coho and 1 chinook kept. Lady's with whole herring at 15 pulls was the magic combo. We had flashers on one rod and it didn't get any hits until we took it off. Caught a couple at 8 pulls towards the end. Had buoy 2 in sight the whole time. Good luck to anyone headed out Sunday!

Grits, what was the water temperature? Did you see alot of common murres (black and white look like penguins) and pelicans? Thanks for the report! Nice bag.

59 degrees according to the fish finder. We were in 90-100 feet of water most of the day. Yes to the common mures, they were everywhere. So were the bait balls on the fish finder. We marked a lot of fish at 30' but didn't have down riggers to go after them.

30' isn't far. Why didn't you just put out a few more pulls or a few more oz. of PB?
So Pilar, what is the deal with the Common Murres? Are they bait fish eaters and an indicator as to where the fish will be that eat them?

I am no Pilar but yes they are heavy baitfish eaters. I remember a few years back when the ocean conditions left a lot to be desired and the murres were washing up on the Oregon coast due to a lack of food. Now every other murre you see has fish hanging out it's mouth. We saw a few tufted puffins flying off of Waldport a few weeks back. This is further south that I think i've ever seen them before.
Even though we can screw up a lot of things, it's good to see nature taking care of itself every once in a while... Joe
