Do these things work? seems like they make too much noise. But the topwater bite is too much for me not to try em. :meme:

You should talk to dragon67. I think he has been using the Hedon Torpedo lately, but I am not sure what his results have been. I would send him a PM since he has not been reading many threads lately.

I have had luck with the Torpedo on days where the water isn't totally calm. Its a nice step between something like a jerkbait/spook and a buzzbait. If the water is too calm for a buzzbait and has a little too much wind/chop for a spook, the torpedo is a good choice. It is one of my favorite smallie topwaters. Just make sure the blades are balanced. Hard hits bend the heck out of them sometimes!

I caught one of my biggest smallies this year on one in the spring in the middle of a sunny day. Shallow water over some staging fish, seemed to do the trick. This fish was just shy of 4lbs.

Last evening on the John Day, an 18"er hit a Baby Torpedo (frog pattern w/white belly). After towing me and the kayak w/my dog aboard, she turned left with enuf force to spill Ryker overboard. There is nothing more fun than bass slamming a top water lure.

Or having a fish dump your dog in the water while you are fighting it. This is one of the tactics I have noticed in these Oregon smallmouth - they will do anything to get you distracted and off the line.:laugh::laugh:
I have tied on some torpedos but have yet to catch with them. I'll keep trying... especially when the dog is in the boat with me.

Hey Buku that was a great story! 18 inchers can fight can't they! ryker may have been confused for a second, but water is no problem for him.
Great reply Jon55!!!
