Hurricane Dean

Current forecast is that Hurricane Dean will hit the Yucatan with the eye of the hurricane hitting land about where Ascension Bay is located. The Northern edge of the hurricane will hit Cancun and the southern edge will hit Belize and Turneffe Island.

While I am sure everyone has concerns for the people that live down there, I wonder at how the hurricane will affect the best flats fly fishing for permit and bonefish in Central America.

Will Ascension Bay be washed out or filled in; will Turneffe Island remain?

I guess any trips I have planned down there will be delayed for a few more years.

I am supposed to arrive down there in December too. I think I have been watching every newscast on it.

Andy, i fished south of Turneffe Island just after the last time they were hit and the fishing was fine. Some of the islands looked beaten up but the fishing was still great.
