I am heading to Flathead lake in a couple weeks and was looking for any info I could get. No one in our group has ever been there so I'm open for anything. Thanks

Flathead is not a great flyfishing lake, lots of lake whitefish and lake trout. There are tons of good options in the area. The Flathead river and forks, the swan and within a couple of hours the kootnei and the elk in BC. There are also a lot of good high lakes in that area and glacier park.

I would take a pass on the lake and hit one of the other bodies of water in the area. I was up at the North fork of the Flathead river a few weeks back and caught a couple of smallies.

They are starting to lift the fishing bans on some of the other rivers, so check the regs.

OK Thanks for the info, we have a cabin on the lake so we'll probably explore the creeks around it. Has anybody ever fished for pike on the south fork??

For pike try Smith Lake and Loon Lake west of Kalispell. For a fun afternoon head to Poleridge and fish for cuts on the North Fork.
