I might go fishing this weekend and I am not too sure where to go. we need a place with boat rentals and we want to fish for trout and/or kokanees. thanks for any advice. by the way I want something less than an hour and a half from portland.

North Fork would be a good bet. It's about a hour and 1/2 from PDX, and offers pontoon rentals, which are really fun. Not sure how the fishing has been there, but its usually stocked with plenty of Rainbows. Just make sure to get up and go early, because if its a nice day, the water skiiers and the wakeboarders come out after noon or so.
You can fish with powerbait or troll - i've done good doing both.

I have had success all over trolling. Staying close to the shore (watch for bankies) on either side of the river always seemed to work well for me. Start trolling the minute you leave the dock. If they stocked it recently (like within the last day or two), the fish are probably bunched up within the first 100 yard stretch of leaving the dock. If they aren't there, then just keep going.

Went to North Fork last Friday the 17th. Trolled for the better part of the morning with no results. Talked to the girl running the tackle shop and she said it's been very slow. I also talked to some other guys on the bank and others trolling with the same report. I've done well in the past trolling up river where it gets narrow or down towads the dam on the south shore. Just my .02 cents, have fun!!

Kids and I fish North Fork often. This past Sunday we fished all day slow trollin lake trolls with wedding rings was successful for only 3 fish. It has what you are looking for and is scheduled to be stocked week of August 20.

thanks guy I'm going hking this week but i am fishing on the week of the 27th which is also being stocked with 16700 trout.
