Hi folks,

I am heading down to the Truckee area (Tahoe Donner) for the whole week, starting Sunday. Anyone know if Stampede Reservoir has enough water to fish? Any suggestions for tackle/technique? Any other recommendations in that area? Thanks!

Plenty of water in Stampede. Kokanee are still in good shape. Some mackinaw being caught. Trout stocked last week. Small smallmouth along the rocky shores. Good luck and have fun!

Ahhh.....my old neighborhood. I fished both lakes a lot in the 80's and early 90's. I fished Stampede when no one knew there were macks in there. I have a pic of my wife holding a stringer of big rainbows and 20" macks we caught floating worms in one of the arms in 89 or 90.

Donner Kokes are usually run 50 - 80ft deep, boat traffic can be heavy at times... Silver dodgers and pink whatevers ... Go with a green dodger and purple to blue lure of choice for a change up .. I use a lot of hoochies in different colors until I find the color they want ... Good Luck and don't forget the liquid krill and corn... Barney  PS fish from China Cove to Lock Leven Lodge

Stampede is really low the snow pack was dry, stop by the hardware store in truckee and pick up kokanee bugs. They are killer with a shoepeg corn kernel on the hook.

Thank you to all who responded. We had a great week there! Beautiful weather, hot but blowing hard in the afternoon. We ended up fishing Donner Lake on two days and limited both days on dinks (8-12 inches) on a worm/pautzke combo fished on the bottom at the west end. 5lb test flurocarbon leader with small pink corky and sliding weight. The fluro seemed to make the diff. as boats anchored near us (eventually on top of us) couldn't get a strike. (We gave them some leader on our way out).

Next time (early October) we will get to Stampede. We had a defective bilge pump (wiring issues) so I just didn't feel comfortable getting out on sucha big body of water.

Thanks again.
