Hello,

I am new to the Ifisher community and have only been in Oregon with my 17X60 Willie for about 2 years now... I'm trying to compile a list of the *BEST* drifts to do here in the Northwest (in terms of #fish, scenery, and general experience) and was wondering what ideas others have...

Here's what I've got so far:
Wislon - Mills Bridge>Sollie Smith
Trask- Loren's>101 Launch
Kilchis- Logger's Bridge>101 Ramp
Nestucca- Three Rivers>Cloverdale
Nehalem- Beaver Slide>Mohler; Erickson's>Aldervale
Clackamas- Barton>Carver
Deschutes- Macks>Mouth

Anyone have suggestions for these?
John Day-?
Grande Rhone-?
Santiam-?
Siletz-?
McKenzie-?
Alsea- ?
Umpqua-?
Rogue-?
Chetco-?

How about up in WA?
Hoh-?
Sol Duc-?

Anyone ever floated Idaho waters (salmon, snake?)

I think this would be a good discussion to get going!

Regards,

I grew up on the Rogue and it's a great river. There are a great many different styles of drifts on the Rogue. It depends on the fish you are targeting and the time of year. If you are planning a trip down on a specific weekend shoot me a message and I will try and help you out.

John Day Clarno to Cottonwood.
Deschutes Buckhollow to Heritage, Trout Creek to Harpham.
You forgot one Grand Ronde Bogans to Hellers Bar.
The Mack and the Willie take your pick.
Sandy Dodge to Oxbow.

Your list is too long for fishing as it would take years to learn all this. Pick 2 or three.

As for the MF Salmon I have ben trying to get a permit with no luck...some day.

Any float in a drift boat is better than sitting in traffic going to/coming from work!!

(I was just comparing mental pictures of two very different means of trasportation)

As to the OP - I did a float last summer on the John Day from Twickenham
to Clarno. Lots of fun and beautiful scenery. I would like to do Clarno to Cottonwood sometime as well...

I'd have to second the Hoh drift. Absolutely beautiful going through the Canyon. I've hooked some gorgeous fish in that strecth. Hard to beat the scenery also.

I've also drifted the Sol Duc quite a few times and yes, you do have to be careful. Maxfiled Road to the Rainier take out is a great drift. But again, be careful.
