There aren't a ton of fish, but they're very large....a guide took a 45 lb fish while I was down there this last week. Another guide friend had 10 fish over 30lbs from June 26 to July 4th.
Historically, anything over 30lbs is huge for the Rogue, but things have been different the last 4-5 years.
If you can go, go now. The Corps of Engineers, in cahoots with the F&W, will be monkeying with the water flow around the first of August, which could really mess with normally superb bay fishing to be had. The river's running 72 degrees at Lobster Ck., and very full of junk, ie., moss. So the fish are kegging in the bay, until the cold water comes charging down from Lost Creek Reservoir.
There are a ton of smelt in the bay as well, along with some anchovies (nothing like Brookings, though).
