I am new to boat ownership and wanted to get some advice on theft prevention. I have a little 15 foot duck boat with a 6hp Johnson on it. I want to make sure my outings are fun, safe, and my property does not get stolen.
My two biggest fears are that my motor will get stolen and that my trailer will get stolen.
First the trailer: What do you guys do when you launch your boat to prevent someone from hooking up and taking your trailer? Any cost effective preemptive measures that work well I can take?
Second the motor: What do you do to prevent someone from lifting your motor? While the motor is on my boat and parked somewhere…store…getting a bite to eat…at a motel parking lot…or whatever, how do you prevent the theft of a little light motor like a 6hp. I don’t want to weld it on, as I may need to take it off from time to time to portage the boat.
During the duck season the boat will be stored in my garage. After the season, it will be under cover in my back yard that is fenced but the motor will be in my garage in storage.
Thanks for the help!
Jim
