How are you keeping your battery terminals and conncetions clean from corrosion? Yesterday I was rigging up some salmon gear and checking the boat over. The battery connections needed to be cleaned. Nothing worse then a poor connection while out on the big blue.

Wondering if anyone is using the brush on liquid rubber electrical protection stuff in a can? This stuff looks like it would work good, a little messy going on. Does it seal out moisture and protect conncetions from corrosion? How hard to remove?

Does anyone else have a good method?

Presently I use the diaelectric grease and brush the contacts when needed.

thanks,

Gregg

The keys to keeping your electrical main power trouble free include keeping the battery dry and clean (in a battery box), and connecting your terminals and end connections properly. To insure reliability, I soldered, crimped, and then shrink wrapped all of mine... the can get wet often yet will not corrode or fail.

The battery box is a must. Add to that some spray battery post sealer (not sure of the real name?). You can get it at autoparts stores. It comes in a small spary paint sized can for $3-4. Once a year when the battery is put in the boat and your good all season.

i use clear high heat spray paint, it seals everything water tight and does not collect dirt, dust or moisture. just my 2 cents.

The only way to keep terminals clean foever is a coating of dielectric grease....NO oxygen NO corrosion. It'll last as long as your battery does and when applied in the proper manner it isn't half as messy as the spray on garbage. A battery box is a giving.... Easy storage in or out of the boat.... Just my 2 cents....

Thanks everyone for the help. I have two batteries, both in boxes. Somehow, the one battery developed a little corrosion around the post and the connections needed cleaning. Must have been some excess moisture at one time.

AngelThis, All the connections are soldered and shrinked wrapped, good advice.

So far I've been problem free. When I saw this corrsion, could be just a matter of time.

Now I have 3 options. Spary on battery post sealer, dielectric grease and high heat clear spray paint.

I'll check out the spray stuff.

Thanks,

Gregg
