Hey All,
I'm looking for anyone with experience with the Oregon Fishing Club. I am a member but am really having mixed thoughts on remaining a member. Your thoughts and experience would be greatly appreciated.

My boss is a member and has been for about 5 years or so. When he first joined he took me to eagle creek (off clackamas) with him and we fished some really nice water. The owners of the club were out there doing some work to the trails. We talked to them and they were really nice people.

He has been faithfully sending his check off every month and has only gone one other time to my knowledge and fished. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

He has had no problems, but then again he doesnt use it, or hasnt for several years.

FishinMishin2,
I just recently joined (2 months ago). I've only fished on two of the properties (Sandy and Clackamas). I wasn't really that impressed with the Clackamas property, it was a long hike down and I really wasn't impressed with the fishing hole. I'm going to the coast this weekend, so I'm going to check out some of the coastal river properties. I'm really only interested in the river properties. Have you been to any of the coastal river properties? Are they any good? Any recommendations?. I have yet to catch a fish at any of the locations. Hopefully my luck will change this weekend. I really haven’t been a member long enough to form an option yet.

Yeah, the Sandy and Clack properties are not that great. I joined because they had property on the N.Frk.Nehalem which you could launch a boat just below the last falls and it was very productive. They lost that property images/icons/frown.gif though.

I went last week to the Beaverton pond and found it was closed and everything removed which I didn't read anything about which was somewhat annoying especially since I was going to have a B-D party, good thing I scouted it first.

I have had some recent bad experiences with the members in trying to get assistance. Some folks in the pro-staff team have a prima-donna attitude which is a turn off. Maybe I'm just getting a little cranky as I age.... images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Bah. Only that they bought and closed off the "cliff" put in on the North Fork of the Nehalem, which was a pain, but below any drowning water. Own streches of our rivers? I don't think so. Wilson guys, don't you experience such "fun" with these "attempted exclusives" now days too? images/icons/rolleyes.gif

My only impression is the same as ******'s. Saw their darn signs all over the lower NF Nehalem. Instantly didn't care for them.

I appreciate the responses on the OFC club. I think it does have some good attributes, such as large ponds near the clackamas area with trout in the 4-6lb class with camping and other ammenities available. They have leased land on most major rivers throughout the state, we all know without a boat many of the fishing areas would be out of reach for people due to private property.....hummm maybe it should stay that way.....They also do contribute to charity's for kids also.

I'm not in ANY way promoting this club but looking for others that have had experience with it and it's operation. The people running it need skills in communication instead of promoting their personal agenda's through this venue.

Thanks

I'm familiar with their property on the Nestucca...it's right next to the 101 bridge just outside of Hebo. Well, let's just say I've fished that water. It's amazing what a pair of shorts and sandals will do (bushwhack down from Condor Br. Rd.). A nice set of two riffles, though nothing to write home about. Got a 14# chrome bright summer out of the lower one last year. I do sort of tense up when I drive by there though, it is right there, so close to the highway, and yet closed to the public.

Just out of curiousity, has OFC ever considered charging a day use type of fee on their land? Somewhat like what other private landowners have done: "Please pay $1.00 for the right to trespass on this property, regardless of where you fish". Maybe a little more than a dollar to maintain the 'exclusive' atmosphere, but I personally could see paying maybe $10-15 a day to get access to some of their pieces of land on the coast rivers. If for no other reason then to try some new water out.

What would OFC's stance on something like this be? It seems like it'd benefit them and the public. Just an idea.

SFG, I think your idea's have some merits, I would contact them to bring this up. You can find them in Albany and on the web and if you don't have any success let me know and I will direct you. Thanks

I was a member of the ore. fishing clup for several years.I fished the eagle creek property and the sandy prop. a lot, mainl because there close.Helped them a little with the washougal prop. This clup is also where imet and became friends with Richard Paradinski for several years up untill he died in fact.Bruce and his dad where very friendly,I taught 1st aid to others of there pro staff. The reason I quit the club was they kept buying more and more ponds,I wasn't a bass fisherman nor did,I fish trout.I was hopeing they would get more river property but when they didn't.I figured it was time for me to move on.I reall have nothing bad to say about them just wish they would have quit buying those ponds !!!.

FM2,

I have a close fishin' buddy that has been a member for a couple of years now. I posted a thread on the old DB to get feedback and found a fair amount of disgust for this type of operation. I believe that OFC doesn’t own property but purchases access rights from the property owners...I think images/icons/rolleyes.gif.

We have fished many of the streams and ponds in the area but feel there is just as good a water elsewhere if you just look. You don't find the pressure you do on public access areas. They do offer camping on some property and some of the ponds are a good place to take kids to fish and feel safe.

You are only allowed to take the same person twice to any property - rules might have changed recently - and than you have to pay a $25 fee per visit...yea right images/icons/rolleyes.gif!

I know a couple guys that joined just to access a couple prime slots...but a $400 or so fee up front and yearly dues around $300 seems ridiculous to me.

I feel fishers money would be better spent on a drift boat payment and then they would be able to access a lot more water than just OFC property.

...just my opinion images/icons/smile.gif

Right on the money, dogfishboy, in my opinion.

DFB, yes they lease property from landowners and have a somewhat comprehensive agreement to protect the propery, the fishery and another topic-garbage.

I beleive there is a future trend towards this type of club as this one is growing and has alot to offer for the average person. I just think their leadership and choices in personnel have room for improvement.

I have been a long time boater and until recently owned 3. This I will not give up because of the freedom and access it gives me so I will continue to enjoy time on the water and hopefully will continue to land a few fish.

Thanks for the feedback everyone !

No, don't really know who anyone is on this DB, this was the name of my NW Jet boat so I used it here not knowing there was another ! images/icons/shocked.gif

Keep posting the cool images/icons/cool.gif pics, brings a humorous dimension to postings. images/icons/grin.gif
