View Full Version : Fuel stabilizers...
What kind do you prefer.
I'm down in Eureka and we have the wonderful E10 fuel and I've found that Star Tron gives me the best bang for the buck.

I just try to get the boat out a few times a month in the winter, that seems to keep fresh fuel in it.

I think it is a total waste of money to use any if you plan on only storing the item for 8 months or so.
I know I store my RV, boat, and ATV's from Sept to May and have never had a fuel related issue.
Any Petroleum Engineer will tell you modern gasoline has a 12 month shelf life.
I used to use Stabilizer a long time ago but after seeing a red residue in my fuel tank I felt it was causing more harm than it was preventing.

:agree:
It's a total waste of money. Gasoline has a very long shelf life, diesel even longer. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you plan to store it for anything less than a year.

If, you own a new Mercury motor do not use Stabil. There is a service bulletin regarding problems associated with the high alcohol content causing problems w/ the high pressure fuel pump seals. The Mercury specific product of course works. (go figure)

OOPS!! I've been using it in my new mercury 4stoke...
Guess I'd better stop! I've always used it ith no harm.. Thats probably why they put the red dye in it! so the service dept....can see you've been using it!

Same topic but different scenario.
How about in premix applications? Do you think it's a good idea? I heard that the oil will cause the gasoline to go bad quicker? I have an built in fuel tank so there is more at stake than the traditional 5 gallon jugs.
Thanks!
