Just wanted to post and ask if anyone has a idea of what my problem is with my boat. I have a 350 engine with a Kodiak 2 stage pump . I went and took her out fishing/tubing last weekend and after about 2 hours of pulling my kids around on the tubes I could hear a low pitch howl , it was directly in sync with the reving of the engine. By the end of the trip I didnt detect the howl , so it was on and off. I did grease the Thrust bearing just before the trip . Not sure what I should do , Leave it or take it in and see whats going on . We were at a high elevation 6500' and it did run very sluggish with not much top end. I only have about 136 hrs on the engine and pump and always give the thrust bearings a squirt every 10hrs or so. I am at sea level now and thinking of taking her out to see how she works down here. Any ideas or advice would be very appreciated. Thanks, jim

I would get the thrust bearing checked out. You may be over greasing it at every 10 hrs especially if you are putting in more than 1 or 2 squirts. On the Hamilton pumps (Kodiak is an older Hamilton design) the recommended pump greasing interval was as low as 30 hrs and as high as 50 hrs. I have 2 boats one with a Kodiak 3 stage and one with a Hamilton 241 both of them I grease about every 35-40 hrs with only a couple of squirts and they both run fine. (The 3 stage has about 240 hrs and the 241 has 160 hrs). Anyhow I would get it checked, because when the thrust bearing goes out completely it is a very expensive fix, better safe than sorry.

:agree: My Marine power Jet X-Stream says grease every 50hrs ... Yea and its hard not to pump some in for me too...;)

You may have just sucked up some weeds or a stick. As you back off on the throttle and stop, the debris will sometimes free itself. If you're intake is obstructed, it can cause a howl and will definitely decrease you're top end. This happens all the time with our Kodiak 496 with Hamilton 212.

Kodiak pumps are loud!! If there is nothing stuck up inside and the thrust bearing isn't getting hot, I wouldn't worry about it.
