I know there has been a lot of summer steelhead dialog recently, I still have a few questions.

1) What's the best presentation for a float and jig? I have assumed you would employ the same wet swing
technique as you would when fly fishing for summer steelhead. Is that correct?

2) Pink, red and light colored jigs for low light and silted conditions and purple/black for clear/mid day conditions?

3) Is there a bite during mid-day or should I focus my efforts early morning and evening?

Any advice for a novice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. MJ

float and jig should be fished dead drift just like drift fishing with roe or shrimp only your using a bobber. set the depth of the jig slightly less than the depth of the water. try to keep slack between the float and your rod tip to a minimum.

for summer jig or fly colors i have one thing to say BLACK!!!

When I jig fish I always try to have the most natural presentation possible. Smaller floats that are either clear or natural in color work great for low water conditions.
I have had great success using either red and/or black jigs a lot of the time. Black in combination with other colors is a good bet.
Morning and evening will be your best chance for summers in most conditions. When the sun is shining on the water, target the riffles that lead into the pools.
