I just could not keep my bait on the hook. Those pesky coho and chinook would not leave it alone. This was very frustrating because I could not get my herring to thaw out fast enough to rebait my hooks. They just kept swiming up to the boat with my bait in thier mouths and I had to net them. Then I had to open the fish box and cut their little throats so that they would'nt do that again. But they had a lot of brothers and sisters out there that wanted revenge. Lucky for me I had enough bait to take care of them too. It just happened so fast I could'nt stand it. So after being out there only about one and a half hours and limiting our boat we went back in for a nap and lunch.
All I can say is get out there!!!!!

If you want to be out there for more than an hour or so and learn a few things with so many fish, cut just the tips and barbs off your hooks and EXPERIMENT. Same for when the river gets a load of fish in; de-barb your hooks and C&R with experimental lures, baits, scents, and methods. This is when you will learn things that will put you a notch or two better of a fishermen - IF you have the discipline to just do it. images/icons/wink.gif

RT, disapline? Was it not your buddies that got tickets to a state trooper court room?? he he he... Brother, the barbs were crimped but the hooks were very sharp. I just don't CRACKER the fish like you disaplined fishers do. HA HA HA!!!!
I did use a pink hoochie skirt on a mooching rig with just a herring head on it. Worked fine on 3 fish. Have not tried any lures yet. I'm going back on Sunday! Look for a Trophy named Cindy Lou. I monitor channel 16.
