Interesting way to test fly reels!
I never thought I'd see an Orvis Vortex "burn up" (the Orvis Battenkill did perform flawlessly).
I've got a couple reels I need to do my own test on now...
Maybe set the drag at a specific pound setting (say 75% of tippet strength) and see what happens after 150 yards of backing is ripped off at 25 mph!
