moknots

Had a bunch of company in over the weekend for my daughters wedding. The groom and his best buddy wanted to go fishing before the rehearsal dinner. Figured a short trip to Suttle was the only way to stay out of serious trouble with the MOB and MOG (mother of bride and of groom). I was resigned to toying with tiny fish, but I was in for a surprize. In May I reported 8" fish, skinny little fish (I had 26 all in one gallon zip lock bag, heads on, with room to spare). Boy was I in for a surprize. Ten to the gallon, no room to spare, much more like it!

We bagged 31 friday morning, in spite of a very slow fish landing learning curve for the groomsman. And they were FAT. Not long (10.5 to 11.75"), but they put on a lot more size than I thought possible. Very worth the effort. Enough so that I went out before work this morning and got another 25 (did I say I got to work late:smile:). They bit well from 8am to noon, when I had to bag it, but they were still hitting when I left.

I was was pleased that they put on 2-3 inches, but was astonished at the girth they put on.
Trolling 32 to 36 feet deep in 40-60 feet of water off the south shore. What's really weird was a hot bite today at 20 feet from 10:30-11:30. Things had slowed down and we tried 20 on kind of a lark (nothing at that depth on several tries earlier in the day). The color we could make work was green. Tried pink, orange, red (3 fish total between those colors). 1.5" chartruse hoochie with an orange bead in it's "head" was the hot number, followed by a chartruse wedding ring with silver smile blade. Could hardly buy a bite on wedding rings with metal blades, or on 2" hoochies. Very picky, but there are LOTS of them. Go get some while they are still firm. Not a hint of algea taste. Gotta go tend the barbeque!
