I am heading to Green Peter tomorrow with kids and In-Laws. I am planning to troll up some kokes. Anyone else going to be out? Was anyone else out this week that knows where the kokes are at?
I will post here tomorrow night when I get back.

I was out last Thurs morning. I got 10 to the boat and lost 6 fish. All my fish were caught on pink hoochies tipped with corn soaked in necter behind a gold dodger.
50 and 60 foot on the downrigger produced the most hits. Around the island area was good.
Good luck and post up I plan on going on Thurs.

Going Monday morning also, have had best luck trolling with DR about 50 ' by floating out house and by the island early and then jigging by the log boom later in the day after about 9am. Wedding ring tipped with corn and a piece of night crawler with anise scent works for me, behind 0000 dodger . Color dosn't seem to make much difference. Jigging been with a flourescent pink 2 1/2" buzz bomb with corn.

I just got back from Green Peter "guiding" my kids and In-Laws. Due to inexperienced "fire drills" we didn't start fishing seriously until about Noon. We found the good sized kokes in the middle by the island at about 60ft. Green was the color of the day. We caught all our fish on green wedding rings and glow hoochies with green beads. The kokes were good sized 12-14 inches.
By-the-way, I tried using the Gamakatsu size 4 red drop shot hooks on some of my rigs for the first time. They were amazing! Hooked in the corner every-time and trailer hooks often hooked through the face. I did not loose one fish on these rigs with inexperienced anglers. We lost about 50% on the normal rigs tied with octopus hooks.
Also, beware of the floating restroom when mooring. The dock looks padded but there are sharp metal brackets you cannot see. I gouged my paint real good drifting into the dock.:frown:

I fished my two girls this morning 7/31 - that's worth it in itself! :meme:
We hit two fish right off the bat and I thought it was going to be hot!! Then it went completely dead and we didn't get another bite. We quit at 11:00 and headed to A&W in Sweet Home.
Everybody we talked with had the same experience. Any thoughts?
I pretty much stuck to 40-50 feet with red hoochies and dodgers. Tried Dick Nites and Spin-n-glows, but nothing.
Anyway - we found a couple fun spots to explore and now I'm headed home to get the knife out and do some fish cleaning with my 2 year old boy! He wants to get his hands in the blood......

Hey Jeff,
I had a similar experience Saturday with a group of guys from my church. We were planning a kokanee feed in the evening after fishing all day. Around noon I called my wife and asked her to take a couple summer steelhead filets out of the freezer because we were going to need them.
It was funny, we would go through an area, get 4 hits, and land a couple, then it would be dead in the same area. We would keep fishing, changing gear, then a couple hours later, all the rods would get hit again. We would think we got them figured out, then it would be dead again. It was very frustrating, we ended the day with only 8 fish after fishing 4 rods for 8 hours.
The fish are too nice this year to leave them alone. I just keep going back.

That's a winning picture Jeff, good for you getting your girls and son into fishing early.
As for the slow fishing, perhaps the fish are widly scattered in small groups and you need to consistently move around or the barometric pressure may have something to do with it. Hard to say, guess that's why we call it fishing and not catching.
good luck next time,
Gregg

I fished Green Peter on Saturday 8-4-07 and had good success. Three of us caught 40 kokanee in the 12-14 inch range. The fish were primarily in at 55-60 feet from what we could see on the fishfinder, and that was the depth we had the downriggers at. We had our best success south of the island, though the fish seem quite scattered this year. We were using a simple homemade orange bead wedding ring spinner. We started about 7am and the bite was on and off all day, but definitely died off at 4pm.

Good Report Dan! GP sure has nice fish this year. I hope to get over there some time in August. What kind of shape were the fish in. The ones at Wickiup seem like they are fairly far along maturity wise. The egg skiens are very well developed already.

The fish we caught on 7/30 had big eggs already. However, they smoked liked candy!

Thanks. Hope you can get to Green Peter. The fish were in excellent shape. The males have just the slightest dark tinge. The meat quality was excellent on everything we caught.
