I have a 1995 Mercruiser Alpha 1 with a 350 Chevy. I was changing the plugs to get ready for salmon fishing in August and had water in 3 cylinders on the port side. :bigshock: I pulled the heads, and not only were the bolts fairly loose, but the head gasket had some problems. I had the heads worked on, and I am going to have some help putting it back together this weekend, but what about the exhaust manifolds?

Any suggestions on where to take them, or how to check out to make sure they are alright? Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you, Elwood.

You should look closely at the risers for cracks or corrosion into the water jacket paying close attention to the area where it curves. You can pressure test the manifolds by putting a plate over the riser surface with a gasket and pressurising the water passage with the exhaust ports full of water. You shouldn't see any bubbles in the exhaust. You could visually look for rust if you are unable to pressure test them.
