Ive been up at Crane the past 3 days and after talking to 5 or 6 boats everyone has come out empty handed with bass and trout. Any ideas of what lakes in central oregon are fishing good for trout right now and what is being used? I'll be in Bend until the 28th and have a 15 foot aluminum so im pretty much game for any lake. Thanks

Brett

As I mentioned to you in your last request, I would have skipped Crane. Target the browns or big rainbows at Wickiup. If you feel like a change of neighborhood, East and Paulina. Also Crescent and Odell have big rainbows and Crescent has browns too. Read my tips again from your last request and go gettem!!

I would have a replica made of that fish. That's one of the most beautiful browns I have ever seen. Looks like an older fish. Wow!!!:applause:

Caught on July 21st, 2007. The one on the right was caught at about 2:30. The one on the left was caught at about 3:30. Middle of the day. Both were 7lbs, one on the left was 26-1/2, the other was 25-1/2. Just using downriggers with Rapala F-13's. One was on a gold, the other was on a black/silver. If you have a fish-finder, you'll find them lurking around the schools of kokes. Hope that helps.

Both were released, so they're still swimming in there. My buddy is seriously considering on getting the one on the left mounted. We actually filmed the release of that one and I think he's got it posted on YouTube. Also took every kind of measurement and tons of pictures of it just so the taxidermist can replicate it best as possible.

Full reports on the weekend from Brian and I are up at TrophyTroutHunter.com. There are more photos of the colorful 7 lber and a link to a longer video of the actual release. The fishing was really good if you were working lures at 20-30 ft, and we caught several other fish in the 4-6 pound range, too. A good deep diving minnow plug in a chub or kokanee type pattern should get the jod done without a downrigger.

Nice work guys.
Dan, that is probably the prettiest fish I have seen of ANY species...

Are you going to make a replica of it?

You can read Dan's report and then click on the link to the actual "release" hi-lited in Red on his report. I'm just glad I got to be there to film it and see such an awesome fish up close and personal. Prettiest brown I've ever seen.

I am considering the replica, but I am VERY picky, and with such unusual and incredible markings I am cautious of dropping a few hundred bucks for something unless I KNOW that the artist will do the fish justice. There are not many taxidermists who would be up to such a challenge. I would rather pay twice the $$ than get something less than perfect.

I wish everyone could have seen the fish in person because as great as it looks in the pictures, the camera only catches the half of it. It was one incredible fish, for sure! I was lucky that day;)

back to topic, anyone been wind drifting the flats at wickiup, tossing rapalas or simular baits. this is the time of year it is normally producing big rainbows and a few browns mid morning on, is when i have normally been successful in the past
