View Full Version : Conflict Resolution Proposals -- Then Let's Fish

I no longer have any influence with the administration here at Ifish (Jen + mods). But since I have done a lot for nearly 2 years within 3000+ posts (old and new DBs) to help create a good Discussion Board here, I will take the liberty to attempt a resolution thread to the latest round of conflict over policies and direction. Hope you will join me with your ideas. ...

For whatever it's worth - my resolution opinion:

Right at the heart of the matter is whether threads that are somewhat adult themed should be allowed - with the administration clearly saying no, with the support of many members, and many of the guys contending it's harmless benign fun ("boat talk" as we call it), and to just not click on it if you aren't interested. And to also lay off the quick deleting of strong opinionated critism threads that are kept reasonable. This was the main reason Jen and I couldn't work together anymore and I left to moderate Piscatorial for awhile (I recently relenquished that for a new opp). Similar things happened with the following moderator. Most of you regulars know this history, and it's time to put it to rest. ... Lately there has been an upswing in deleting threads that don't conform to the ridgid refined board rules. There has been a resultant backlash of protest, much of it deleted, against the new order. This open conflict has not resolved anything, and I don't think continuing it will. Time for another direction. ...

Jennie has regained some respect from me by holding to her DB agenda despite the backlash, highlighted by her post earlier today of "Honestly Ifish". In it she said "I choose not to have very much adult themed humor here, and I apologize for those that like that kind of thing. But that is the way I have decided to run it for now". She has stood up to what amounts to a mini rebellion here and remains standing with her forum and ideals intact. Fair enough and so be it. That has got to finally tell us that she means what she says and that's the way it is going to be; and to respect that. And I hope the others that have also rebelled to lay down the swords and just let it go . ...

She also said in that post to "Please handle personal conflicts through e mail and leave the rest of us to talk about fishing". Also fair enough! For harsh conflicts, especially that become personal, this is the best way to go - for both members and moderators. But there needs to be a way to communicate between 2 harshly conflicting members when e-mails aren't known or displayed. Suggestions for that? I'm not familiar enough with the 'Private Messaging' feature. Would it handle that obstacle? ... I also think milder disagreements discussed with civility can and should continue to be shared in threads. They are rightful expressions, and often beneficial. ...

As for resolving the issue of providing what everyone wants in a site I have this obvious piece of advise that will work nicely into what Jennie wants here. Simply keep the Ifish threads fishing related and G-rated. For those of us that would like to do that here but also engage in the fun "boat talk" banter then take those type threads to Piscatorial Pursuits (where the reasonably benign adult humor is allowed). Many of us belong to both sites, and you others can easily do that too. We can post family acceptable fishing related posts here and then click right over to the other BB and cut loose when and if we want to. Nobody has to choose only one site and post only there. ... Unless I'm missing some dynamics, this seems to be the solution that will end most of the bickering - at least over this big issue right now. ... I would also mention that Marty's site is a very good one too. And seems to be a nice compromise site concerning this issue. Check it out too. And please bring on any feedback to the ideas mentioned here and other solution ideas that you have. Thanks.

Yawn. Administrative threads from non-administrators have nothing to do with fishing...this crap has to end.

What's wrong with RT's suggestion? It was positive and offered viable solutions. What is your beef Traylor? You don't have to agree but you also don't have to be negative either. It wasn't an admin. post it was just a ifish member's opinion.

Killer, learn to read before you post mis-statements. You missed this key sentence above,

"For whatever it's worth - my resolution opinion:".

Hardly 'administrative'! At all! I noticed you took the liberty to call an attempt of a constructive post as "crap", and not offer any positive ideas of your own. images/icons/rolleyes.gif images/icons/rolleyes.gif

There is still your familiar aroma after your edits Boater http://gltdr.org/forums/graphics/emoticons/spin.gif Just kidding around with ya. images/icons/wink.gif

Killertraylor, since everybody is stomping on your post I will too since that is what reel fishermen do.

Actually your post made me laugh, my first thought was that the "fisherman's" reel Jesse Jackson had arrived. Then I knew for sure with that predictable Jesse response regarding "mis-statements" aromas, etc. The verbage is good but if you read more than one board you realize the "heart" sways with the wind of the public.

OK, out with it OLC! You are one of those stalkers that falls secretly in love with moderators - especially ones who are hard to 'get', ay? images/icons/grin.gif If you don't quit stalking me on here and switch your effections to Bigstew, I will use the latest mod squad program invention - a "DB Restraining Order". images/icons/smile.gif ... Naah, jk, you are too much fun to play with.

Here here RT. I'd say that was a very insightful and inspiring speech.

Ting, ting. My swords are dropped. No use beating a dead horse so to speak. I'm really tired of all this BS. It's like politics, you have your die hard Ifish and your die hard Bob's. There will always be conflict, but we can keep it to a minimum.

I really think Killer needs a timeout. images/icons/rolleyes.gif It's people like that which makes an apology/truce go awry.

I may not agree with what all goes on here, but I'll let bygones be bygones.....

Thanks Bill. And a special thanks to Jerry (Steel69). You have set the example that I hoped would come of this post! Ting ting images/icons/smile.gif - the sound of music. How about the rest of us? Jen has held strong and won this thing concerning board conduct here. Its a done deal. So, back to peace and fishing and fun. Everyone knows what you can have and what you can do on the various sites now. I will chose to stay involved in all 3. When I get in a silly or funny mood that goes beyond what's been called for here I will take it to Bob's board (and to Marty's board if it's OK with him) - and often have fun chasing guys like Os and 'Yall around images/icons/wink.gif . I will also post positive fishing tech and fishing issue info on all the boards when I have the time. ... So, won't more of you drop the swords as Jerry rightly did tonight? I honestly think it will bring most of us together and also promote some closeness of the 3 fishing websites along the way - possibly even toward doing some joint fish enhancement projects in the future. Sure a lot better than what's been going on lately!!! ...

And if anyone wants a big fight ... how about we all join together to figure out how to fight and conquer a likey all-time record fall coho run region wide; with lots of summer steelhead and fall 'nooks too?!? images/icons/smile.gif

Hi Steve. Bravo Zulu! This actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Many, many people live in both worlds. Why not accept each for what it is and respect the 'atmosphere' of each place.

A constructive point, well taken and worth considering carefully. Thank you sir may I have another?

Ching, clank, crash ......... I throw my side arms and ammunition on the growing pile. I'm keeping the Leatherman though. You can have that when you pry it from my cold .......... Oh and the cattle prod, I'll need that for ......

Maybe we should install a breathalizer test. You cannot post unless you blow less than the legal limit.

O.K., that sounds like a great idea!
DIRECTIONS:
You will have to push the little button on your tower that makes the little drink holder come out. (Some people play some kind of cd music on this, or something, I use it for a drink holder.)
Set your drink down in this special and very handy holder.
Blow into the floppy drive, or in one of the holes in the back. No! Better than that, stick your tongue in it!
Since I have nothing better to do, I will personally record your isp from here.
That stands for 'intoxication sensory postornotpost' test.
Then, you will write your message.
You can always tell if you don't pass by the time stamp of your post. It will read an early A.M reading.
This is where all the failed isp tests will be stored.

I posted my opinion because I thought RT's "opinion" was mindless and unnecessary - his basic suggestion was "since I don't make any of the decisions around here anymore, let's leave this board the way it is, leave the other BB's the way they are, and let's all visit the ones we want, when we want to say what we want." And he spent 5+ paragraphs to say it. I take this board as I find it. I never rag on the moderators or what they edit. I believe that those who put all the time, effort and expense into the design and upkeep of this website (JENNIE and moderators) should be able to run it however they want - it's their perogative and I guess I'm just sick of everyone trying to offer their ideas for how they think it should be run. RT - I'm not saying that you didn't mean well with your post, I'm just sick of reading crap that doesn't have to do with fishing - just as everyone should be sick of reading my post by now! STEW - I didn't offer any constructive criticism of my own because JENNIE and the mods don't need it- keep up the good work, guys.

Thanks for the clarifications KT. No prob with me. images/icons/smile.gif But don't forget the suggestions to just click on fishing topics only - so you won't get tired of the non-fishing things. My $0.02. Take care. - RT ... BTW, I am a rambler - not the car, but I ramble on with my posts often. images/icons/wink.gif
