Spending the weekend in Florence and i'm not sure what fishing is available if your not a bass fisher. Shore or jetty bound. Any ideas?

Perch fishing off the Florence jetty might be worth trying. I never fished the jetties but witnessed some other people fishing the channel side of the north jetty. Two hooks 12 inches apart with sand shrimp suspended above a 2 ounce weight should be the ticket.
good luck Steve,

I really enjoy fishing Mercer lake near florence. Great perch fishing from a boat if you find a good spot. My dad and i have boated 60 fish in one day on more than one occasion. I dont know if you can rent boats there or not.

SS,
I lived in Florence for a long time. If you have a seaworthy boat, Id reccomend headin out to the jetties, and bring some crab pots. Go below the south jetty and lay down some pots about parallel to the wing jetty. Then head back to south jetty with some curly tail jigs of decent sizes and various colors in between soaking your pots. I prefer white, black, and chartruse.
A couple of strategies me and my dad use are to go in on the river side and just drift along with the current fairly close to the jetty. Just cast out and jig as you move along and you should hook into some ling or rockbass. If that doesnt produce, head to the ocean side of south jetty, and fish the area around the end of the main jetty, and the wing jetty. I also like to fish the end of the wing jetty. If the sea is calm you could also throw in some bait, as your boat wont be moving around too much. But if the sea is a bit rough, Id recommend against this spot, as you can get in trouble pretty easily.
If you are without boat, you can still fish the jetties, although its a pain to get to south jetty. South jetty is always my favorite spot. If the sea is calm enough, though, north jetty should be ok, too.
For other types of fishing, you could head out to one of the many lakes around, although I have to admit, the lake fishing has not been as good in recent years due to the overgrowth of that nasty water weed stuff. Its just everywhere. I know Tacenich lake (spelling?) rents boats, and there are several fishing camps on Siltcoos lake that rent boats, Nightengales being my favorite spot, although its a bit of a drive. Try bringing a lantern and fishing at night for some catfish in Siltcoos.
Also, stop by the Sportsman just before the Siuslaw bridge. They should be able to tell you what's hot for fishing right now better than me =).
