We'll be spending this Sunday thru Wednesday at Nehalem Bay State Park, and am trying to decide whether or not to bring the boat to do some crabbing. Anybody been out there lately? Good #'s, bad #'s, hard or soft?

Last I heard the crabs were in good numbers but 80 percent were soft. (that was about a week ago)There seems to be a lot of grass in the water also.

WMB,

Check this post, the info is fairly current.
Roy may not be a fish killer but he consistantly gets a bunch of crabs images/icons/shocked.gif
Hmm, never mind.... images/icons/wink.gif

Thanks guys. I'll have to toss it around, this is supposed to be a laid back trip, I don't want to have to go down to Tillamook to go crabbing with the Nehalem boat launch so close. It seems like if they're hard in Tillamook they would be good in Nehalem as well. I'll play it by ear, maybe we'll just bring the bikes and golf clubs this time.

I have no comment on Roy's "fish killing" though - I've had some bad luck times myself, plus I don't want to attract any bad karma. images/icons/shocked.gif

He'll get his share of fish one way or another. images/icons/wink.gif

Call Jetty Fishery, 503-368-5746 for the latest update. Kelly or Janice know whats going on. You would think if there good in Tillamook they should be good in Nehalem.

(unless BOE has some different measurement system for determining the difference between hard and soft)

BOE I'm afraid to ask how high up. images/icons/blush.gif

WMB:

Bring the boat, July 4th is when you need to start check the jaws to see if any chinooks are straying in. Right along the Jetty by the log piles. Or just get some sand shrimp and plunk for sturgeon. The grass is really bad so fishin will be tough.

The ODFW has been out with tangle nets looking for fish. The grass has been sinking their nets and they haven't done well but I am hearing a few reports of fish jumping.

Just maybe I might see you
