Yeah, Negro is good stuff. Try this though. Do a blind tast test between all of your favorite Mexican beers.

Sure, you'll taste a small difference between the beers, but when it comes right down to a taste test, you'll be amazed to find out just how similar they all really are. I'd be willing to bet you couldn't pick out Negro in a blind tast taste with Corona, Tecate, or Pacifico.
Put a lime in any of them and they are just about the same.

I tried. I failed. I like 'em all, so I guess I ended up winning! images/icons/wink.gif

Negro has a persona of better quality, if there is such a thing among that source of brew.

Lets officially make this fishing related, Steelhead Pale Ale from Mad River Brewery is good! images/icons/wink.gif

No need, what is fishing without Barley Pop?

No cheating!!!!!!

Have someone else give you the beer in a random order. You need to be blindfolded or else you'll see the color of the beer and the things floating in it. In the US, we call that stuff "sediment", in Mexico, they call that stuff "sewage". images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

Negra Modelo is decidedly maltier, I could certain pick it out from Corona or Pacifico. Our local Mexican place has XX on tap, I usually get that. Bohemia is also good (unlike "Bohemian").

Who remembers Noche Buena? It was a Christmas beer from the XX company ... Cervezeria Moctezuma.

I think most mexican beers come from one or two companies - the American equivalent might be Miller High Life, Miller Lite, MGD ... Bud Bud Light, Michelob, Michelob Dark - - There's 7 beers that essentially taste the same.

* * * My go-to fly is a #10 deer-hair caddis emerger with a silver tinsel body, drift it downstream and then put the "swimming" action on it as you retrieve near the bank * * *

I love the McMenamins Hammerhead. Got a keg in the garage and I usually fill up a 2 liter bottle before any float. Goooood stuff!

"No need, what is fishing without Barley Pop?" Now that's the Pilar and FM we know and love! 2 down and 1 to go? images/icons/smile.gif ....

Before I drink any beer I get after the fish for at least a couple hours first. Well, at least an hour, or about 30 to 40 minutes - unless it's the first thing I do after we launch images/icons/grin.gif . Naah, seriously I wait until at least mid morning to drink the beer. By that time the tequilla has about warn off. Naah, just kidding again images/icons/tongue.gif . I love a few beers about midway thru a fishing day - enough time to wear off before any driving of trucks (serious about this safety factor!). And not too much so as to do stupid things on the river either - like wash the side of 'Fly's driftboat on the Queets with Doug pointing a camera at me (that's tequilla for ya). As for beer 'Stew, I like the standard Michelob. Or about any available decent beer - as they say "any port in a storm" - right? images/icons/wink.gif .

Gotta side with RT with the Michelob. Phish, Miller High Life and Michelob tastes the same? Maybe after 15 or 20 beers! Even then I bet i'd get a taste test right 10 out of 10 times. Ok, somebody dare me to prove it... images/icons/shocked.gif

I remember the Noche Buena beer and thought it was the best Mexican I had tried. Most are OK, but I need a real beer with some color and flavor like Deschutes Black Butte Porter. If it is hot and I am very dry then I enjoy the lemon beers.

As for daring Salmonator to drink 15 to 20 beers I'll pass. It would remind me too much of the kids in New Zealand who would drink and drink and drink until they barfed...on each other...for fun. images/icons/shocked.gif Besides, Salmonator is just trying to get someone to shout him a few beers. images/icons/grin.gif

What was the name of the cheap knock off champagne in Korea (Texas st.) and then theres soju. I'd tell ya a story about the CO knocking out the Weps O but I can't remember through the soju induced fog. (something about out drinking Korean base Commander )

Wow, sounds like I was the only person who thought he was going to puke after drinking San Miguel. After sampling that and Tiger Beer, I stuck with mixed drinks. Until we went to visit the Aussies that is. Now there's some boys who can brew some good stuff!

whoa this topic took a hard right rudder ... stand by to come about! mmmmmm Salmonator (Member # 9 - wow - I bow down ... "number nine, number nine, number nine ...") I just meant that mass-produced American beer is "essentially" the same - - now given a choice of those 2 I would take the Michelob until it was gone! If only for nostalgia- if you had some Michelob in my high school daze you were living the "High Life" images/icons/cool.gif

I think that the Noche Buena was the same as Tres Equis Obscura (XXX dark)I had both. I think Dos Equis and Tres Equis were the same company. They had a rich almost sweet flavor. I remember "importing" some XXX in college from Mexico. Noche Buena was the only thing that came close. images/icons/wink.gif

****** I have to fess up. Last time I was in Olongapo I was 9 (1979) images/icons/shocked.gif My old man was there from 67-70 I think and I’ve heard all the bar hopping stories. When we went back in 79 on vacation not much had changed. Nothing like going bar hopping with the old man images/icons/grin.gif and getting all those good looking women to give me free Cokes or a Royal True Orange images/icons/grin.gif. 9 year olds should never drink beer or ESQ not that I would know anything about that. images/icons/rolleyes.gif Anyway it was an eye opening experience and **** river was amazing. Jeepnees, mini buses, Victory Liners, tri cycles. I still remember the trip VERY vividly. images/icons/smile.gif I havent been back since but I know guys that have and your right, it just aint the same. Those were the days....thanks for the trip down memory lane. images/icons/grin.gif

And yes I heard all those stories when I was a kid and it never effected me......much. That’s what happens when you grow up around sailors.

All ahead full!!!!!!

If there was ever an inconsistent beer, it was San Miguel. Had to drink it ice cold so you couldn't taste it!

WaterDog: It looks like I was there when your dad was too ('67-'69 and part of '70).

I heard that Cubi Pt. NAS is now a FedEx distribution center.

The fishing trips were fun: lots of red snapper and beer images/icons/cool.gif
