I'll post this here, you never know....

I've already checked out the local retail rock suppliers in Oregon City, Portland, Beaverton.

I'm looking for a pair of columnar basalt rocks: 10.5' ht x 22" to 30" diameter. Yes, that is three to four tons each. Dark colored or bronze is preferred....fresh Columbia basalt might be ok.

If you know someone who has this material, or even a quarry closer than Moses Lake Washington that has this in a landscaping quality and will sell to the public, I'd appreciate the tip.

If it works out, will repay you with canned tuna or other fish or beverage:cheers: of your choice.

Thanks all!

That place in Clark County is close enough to work... if they've got the columns.

Central ORegon has some good outlets but the transport cost makes it less feasible.

Please excuse my rudeness for asking, but what are your going to do with these rather large rocks?
You appear to be taking rock collecting to a new dimension.

I'm guessing they will be actual columns for something. I'd love to see whatever it is when it's built. Should be darned cool and quite dramatic.

Yup. We have to replace an eyesore of a fence, and were inspired by the ancient stonework we just saw in Ireland. So we're making an old-old-school megalithic driveway entrance. (using maintainance-free, 2-million year warranty, material too! :jester:)

Gary, the place in Vancouver is on 503 just north of Padden Parkway, east side of the road across from Clark PUD. They have some decorative columns out front but I haven't seen any that length...

I suppose.

Don't forget the two equinoxes and winter solstice...and Guy Fawkes (if your liver can stand it!)

I'm not sure how to get in touch with him now but their is a guy named Doug Remmick that has some stock out by Estacada that would have the ability to get them for you. He once had Northwest Stone in Tualitain.

Looks like we found a good supplier to work with...Smith Rock, 58th & Johnson Creek Blvd. These guys are really into architectural stone....lots of examples of cut, drilled and even polished basalt, natural stone birdbaths, really nice fabricated galvanized fountain basins (that's the below-grade reservoir). Best inventory I've seen so far. Should have some premo columns late next week.
