Hello Everyone...Here's a good one for ya..
Yesterday, we fished with a Warm Springs Indian guide on a peice of water that has NEVER seen the white man...NO LIE.
I was invited by a friend who knows this guy named Doug who has a small "shack" near Mecca Flats called Doug's Bugs. He guides and ties flies and generally knows everyone who frequents the Mecca Flats area.
Well, he is good friends with the locals and an Indian guide that was recently given the ONLY guiding permit from the Warm Springs Tribal Council to take the White Man fishing on the reservation. His name is Toot. A really good guy...atypical of the Native Americans hanging around the Rainbow Market!
Well, we took off around noon with 2 Pick-ups and 2 Canoes, onto the reservation.
Now....If you know where the Pelton Dam is...Directly below the dam is a reservoir with "Deschutes type" current flowing to another smaller dam, just before it is released into the river WE see around Warm Springs.
We dump the canoes in the water and paddle up stream 1-2 miles, while Toot's brother stays with the cars.
Long Story Short....a 5 weight rod with 6 pound tippet was WAY too small. Biggest fish....30", 7-9 Pound Redside. Everything else was NO smaller than 18".....AND, here's the kicker...we got it ALL on Video for YOU to see! Plus, this guide is available if you're interested, but it Ain't Cheap.
I will post HERE when the show will be on the air. Figure it to be in about 1 month. In the meantime, I'm now completely spoiled with catching those puny little 14" redsides we all go "nutty" over on the Deschutes.
Talk Later,
