Launched at Deep River and fished just upstream of the bridge on the Washington side. Slept in and hit the water about 9:30 since the turn of the tide was at 11:30. One of the most fun sturgeon trips I've had in while. The fish weren't huge but three of us caught an even 30 fish including two keepers at 43". Its very rare for us to catch that many fish in the Astoria area. Usually catch fewer fish but more keepers. We quit fishing at 3:00. Best fishing an hour before and an hour after the tide turn. Who would have guessed? The wind was blowing and the water was rough but the fishing made up for it. We fished with smelt and some shrimp but we had the best results on smelt. We used about 35 smelt and had to quit because we ran out of bait. Although most of the fish were undersized they all had a lot of fight in them. I'll be heading back next weekend. images/icons/grin.gif
This work thing five days a week really gets in the way. Anybody else have that problem?
